Road running race in the heart of Copertino, Salento
The Corsa Copertinese is a road race that every July transforms the center of Copertino, a town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento, into a grand open-air stage for running enthusiasts. Established as a summer highlight of the Salento running scene, the event is organized by A.S.D. Podistica Copertino and is fully integrated into the FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) calendar, ensuring race integrity and high-quality timing.
The race follows a 7.5 km urban course split into two laps, with the start and finish line in the town center. The route winds through the streets and squares of Copertino, offering athletes a picturesque backdrop that blends competitive spirit with the discovery of one of Salento's most characteristic towns, famous for its imposing Angevin-Aragonese Castle and the figure of Saint Joseph of Copertino. Timing is managed via chip with real-time results, and medical assistance and participant safety are guaranteed along the entire route.
The Corsa Copertinese is one of the events in the provincial 'Running in Salento - SUMMER' circuit, a summer series that brings together various races across the Lecce territory, enlivening the Salento summer with weekly appointments. Participating means more than just running a single race; it means joining a community of runners who meet evening after evening in the towns of Salento. The event is supported by the patronage and financial backing of the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Copertino.
Beyond the strictly competitive aspect, the Corsa Copertinese is a festive moment for the entire city. The evening start, during the cooler hours of the Puglian summer, draws families, spectators, and supporters along the route, turning the race into a vibrant community event. It is a chance to experience Copertino from a different perspective, amidst sport, social interaction, and a passion for running in one of the regions with the strongest running traditions in all of Puglia.
The 2026 edition of the Corsa Copertinese, the fourth in its history, is scheduled for July 19, 2026, in Copertino (Lecce). The race confirms the formula that led to its success: a 7.5 km urban course over two laps in the city center, with chip timing and medical assistance along the route. The event is the fourth stage of the 'Running in Salento - SUMMER' circuit and is included in the FIDAL calendar, with the patronage and support of the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Copertino.
The start is scheduled for the evening in the center of Copertino, as is the tradition for the event. The exact time and meeting point for 2026 will be communicated by the organizers in the days leading up to the race.
