The urban race through the medieval village and the Aniene Valley
Established in 2024 by the Vivi Subiaco association, with the technical collaboration of Atletica Subiaco, Corri Subiaco has quickly become one of the most evocative running events in the Lazio region. The format is that of an urban race: a road run that doesn't just pass through the town, but tells its story, leading competitors past the iconic landmarks of Subiaco, a village in the Aniene Valley at the foot of the Simbruini Mountains, in the province of Rome.
The race course measures approximately 11 kilometers and starts from the Ponte di San Francesco, the famous medieval humpbacked bridge over the Aniene. From there, the route follows the river, touches the Opifici area and the historic paper millโSubiaco is deeply linked to the history of paper and printing; the first book in Italy was printed hereโbefore climbing through the alleys and stairways of the old town up to the Rocca dei Borgia, which overlooks the city. It is a technical and never-dull route, with challenging climbs rewarded by rare, beautiful views of the valley.
The meeting point is at 8:30 AM on Corso Cesare Battisti. At the end of the morning, the awards ceremony takes place, with a finisher's medal for those who cross the finish line, final refreshments, and a race pack guaranteed for early registrants.
Corri Subiaco is more than just a race: it is a regional promotion project supported by the local community and linked to the Municipality of Subiaco. The 2025 edition took place during the year Subiaco was the Italian Capital of Books, and the race helped bring hundreds of runners from various Italian regions to the village. The setting is exceptional: the Aniene Valley, the Simbruini Mountains Regional Natural Park, and the Benedictine monasteries of Santa Scolastica and the Sacro Speco, among the most visited sites in inland Lazio.
The race is held on the last Sunday of April, when the valley is at its best: mild temperatures, nature in bloom, and the green of the Aniene as a backdrop. For many participants, the race becomes an opportunity for a weekend of sport, local gastronomy, and visits to the monasteries: a different and active way to discover one of the most fascinating villages in the province of Rome and the entire region.
On Sunday, April 26, 2026, Subiaco hosted the third edition of its urban race, organized by Vivi Subiaco with the technical collaboration of Atletica Subiaco. The 11 km route, starting from the Ponte di San Francesco, crossed the Aniene riverfront, the Opifici area with the historic paper mill, and the alleys of the old town, up to the climb towards the Rocca dei Borgia.
The morning program included a meeting at 8:30 AM at Corso Cesare Battisti 39, the start of the 8 km sports walk at 9:15 AM, youth races at 9:20 AM, the competitive race at 10:00 AM, and the non-competitive race at 10:05 AM. Online registration remained open until April 24 (15 euros for competitive, 10 euros for non-competitive, 7 euros for the walk, youth races free), with the possibility to register on-site with a 2-euro surcharge.
