About Corri Subiaco

Corri Subiaco is the urban race that every spring transforms one of Italy's most beautiful villages into a unique race course. Eleven kilometers winding between the Ponte di San Francesco, the Aniene River, the historic paper mill, the narrow alleys of the medieval center, and the climb to the Rocca dei Borgia: a run that blends sport, history, and landscape in the heart of the Aniene Valley, in Lazio. Alongside the competitive race, there is a non-competitive run, an 8 km sports walk, and free youth races: an event designed for trained runners as well as families and walkers.

An urban race in one of Italy's most beautiful villages

Established in 2024 by the Vivi Subiaco association, with the technical collaboration of Atletica Subiaco, Corri Subiaco has quickly become one of the most evocative running events in the Lazio region. The format is that of an urban race: a road run that doesn't just pass through the town, but tells its story, leading competitors past the iconic landmarks of Subiaco, a village in the Aniene Valley at the foot of the Simbruini Mountains, in the province of Rome.

The route: 11 km through rivers, mills, and the Rocca dei Borgia

The race course measures approximately 11 kilometers and starts from the Ponte di San Francesco, the famous medieval humpbacked bridge over the Aniene. From there, the route follows the river, touches the Opifici area and the historic paper millโ€”Subiaco is deeply linked to the history of paper and printing; the first book in Italy was printed hereโ€”before climbing through the alleys and stairways of the old town up to the Rocca dei Borgia, which overlooks the city. It is a technical and never-dull route, with challenging climbs rewarded by rare, beautiful views of the valley.

Four formats for everyone

  • 11 km competitive race, reserved for registered athletes, starting at 10:00 AM;
  • 11 km non-competitive run, on the same course, starting at 10:05 AM;
  • 8 km sports walk, open to everyone and suitable for families, starting at 9:15 AM;
  • Youth races, free of charge, starting at 9:20 AM.

The meeting point is at 8:30 AM on Corso Cesare Battisti. At the end of the morning, the awards ceremony takes place, with a finisher's medal for those who cross the finish line, final refreshments, and a race pack guaranteed for early registrants.

Sport and regional promotion

Corri Subiaco is more than just a race: it is a regional promotion project supported by the local community and linked to the Municipality of Subiaco. The 2025 edition took place during the year Subiaco was the Italian Capital of Books, and the race helped bring hundreds of runners from various Italian regions to the village. The setting is exceptional: the Aniene Valley, the Simbruini Mountains Regional Natural Park, and the Benedictine monasteries of Santa Scolastica and the Sacro Speco, among the most visited sites in inland Lazio.

A spring event in Lazio

The race is held on the last Sunday of April, when the valley is at its best: mild temperatures, nature in bloom, and the green of the Aniene as a backdrop. For many participants, the race becomes an opportunity for a weekend of sport, local gastronomy, and visits to the monasteries: a different and active way to discover one of the most fascinating villages in the province of Rome and the entire region.
