The 10km road race that brings the Casal Monastero neighborhood in Rome's 4th Municipality to life every June.
The Corri Casal Monastero has become a staple of the Roman early-summer running calendar. It takes place in the Casal Monastero neighborhood, located on the northeastern edge of the City of Rome, within the 4th Municipality, just a stone's throw from the Grande Raccordo Anulare and Via Nomentana. This is not a major city marathon, but a grassroots event created by A.S.D. Atletico Casal Monastero to bring the neighborhood streets to life and provide the community with a morning of shared sport.
The formula is simple and proven: a competitive 10-kilometer race (10.1 km on the most recent course), accompanied by a non-competitive run open to anyone who wants to walk or run without a timer. The start and finish lines are located at Viale Ratto delle Sabine 7, right in front of the Sant'Enrico parish, the neighborhood's natural meeting point.
The route is an entirely urban circuit that winds through the internal streets of Casal Monastero. Experienced runners describe it as anything but easy: the neighborhood's undulations break the rhythm, and with the heat that can already be felt in mid-June, they make the finish time more challenging than the distance suggests. The maximum time allowed by the organizers is one hour and fifteen minutes, leaving plenty of room for more casual runners.
The race awards the top three overall men and women and the winners of each category, but the true engine of the event is the team ranking: the top ten sports clubs with at least twenty classified athletes receive a cash prize, starting at 350 euros for the winner. This mechanism fills the starting grid with groups from Rome and the Lazio region, giving the morning the typical vibrant atmosphere of Lazio running events, complete with bibs, banners, and club jerseys.
Participants also highly appreciate the refreshment stationsโabundant especially at the finish lineโand the finisher's medal reserved for the first competitive runners, along with the race pack. The morning is traditionally hosted by announcer Massimo Perelli, while the organization is led by association president Domenico Angelucci with the help of dozens of neighborhood volunteers.
Corri Casal Monastero is more than just a race: in recent editions, the event has hosted moments dedicated to the memory of people dear to the neighborhood, such as the silent walk organized by residents in 2025 in memory of Francesca Pelliccia. It is this blend of competition and community life that distinguishes the event from a simple road race and explains its constant growth in the Lazio Region running scene.
For the runner, it is an opportunity to test themselves over a classic distance in a genuine setting, far from the large mass events of the historic center. For those living in Rome and its hinterland, it is a different kind of Sunday morning, where a residential suburban neighborhood turns into a sports stage. The race is part of the Circuito Run, which ensures qualified participation and a strong presence of top regional athletes.
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Casal Monastero neighborhood hosted the eighth edition of its road race. Gathering at 7:00 AM and starting at 8:30 AM from Viale Ratto delle Sabine 7, in front of the Sant'Enrico parish, for a 10.1-kilometer urban circuit with a maximum time of one hour and fifteen minutes.
The day, completely sunny, saw about 350 athletes from Rome and neighboring provinces cross the finish line. Among the men, Carmine Buccilli confirmed his lead in 32'34", ahead of Domenico Liberatore (34'15") and Federico Bracaglia (34'53"). Among the women, Luminita Lungu won in 42'35", followed by Giuseppina Cavaleri (43'44") and Lisa Persi (44'28"). In the team ranking, G.S. CAT Sport dominated by number of participants, with 59 classified athletes.
Alongside the competitive race, the non-competitive event took place, as well as moments dedicated to the memory of Mattia Rizzetti and Francesca Pelliccia, confirming the community vocation of the event. The event was hosted as usual by announcer Massimo Perelli, with the organization of A.S.D. Atletico Casal Monastero led by president Domenico Angelucci.
