The open-air cultural festival set against the backdrop of Cala Porto in Giovinazzo
Every summer, the historic center of Giovinazzo—overlooking the Adriatic in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apulia—becomes the stage for «Conversazioni dal Mare», one of the most popular cultural festivals on the Bari coast. Organized by the Artemia Association, the event takes place in the picturesque cove of Cala Porto, the town's old harbor, where audiences gather at sunset to listen to leading voices in Italian journalism, literature, and culture.
Born to bring current events and civic reflection to the seaside, the festival offers three evenings of free meetings featuring top journalists, writers, historians, and public figures. The format is based on direct dialogue: each guest shares their work, a book, or a current topic in an intimate setting with a large, attentive audience. International reportage, stories of legality, democratic issues, and literary narratives make up a program that balances deep insight with the lightness of summer.
Alongside the talks, «Conversazioni dal Mare» always makes room for live music, with concerts and readings featuring the Apulian Philharmonic Orchestra in evenings dedicated to storytelling through music. Civic theater and narrative find their place thanks to guests capable of transforming a simple meeting into a performance of words and emotion.
The festival also looks to the younger generation with the «Conversazioni dal Mare Young» section, offering free reading and painting workshops designed to introduce children and teenagers to themes of inclusion and sharing. It is the festival's way of expanding its audience and cultivating new generations of readers.
From a local event, «Conversazioni dal Mare» has grown into a traveling festival that, after the evenings in Giovinazzo, continues in other locations across the region, such as Mattinata on the Gargano peninsula. With free admission to all events, the festival confirms its popular and inclusive spirit, offering residents and tourists an authentic cultural experience in the heart of the Apulian summer, between the stones of Giovinazzo and the breath of the Adriatic.
From June 19 to 21, 2026, Giovinazzo hosted the tenth edition of «Conversazioni dal Mare», three days of open-air meetings in the setting of Cala Porto. The central theme, «telling the present», ran through the evenings with prominent figures of Italian journalism and culture.
The program combined current events, international reportage, civic theater, and great live music, confirming the free admission and popular vocation of the festival curated by the Artemia Association. Alongside the meetings, the «Conversazioni dal Mare Young» section offered free workshops for children dedicated to inclusion and sharing.
