The festival of Calabrian and Southern Italian culture in Pieve Emanuele
Colors, Flavors, and Music of Magna Graecia is the festival that every year, in the second-to-last week of September, transforms Pieve Emanuele โ a Municipality in southern Milan within the Metropolitan City of Milan โ into a piece of Calabria and Southern Italy. Organized by the Magna Grecia Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality and the Calabria Region, it is a historic event, reaching its XXVI edition in 2025.
The festival stems from the bond between the Calabrian and Southern Italian community in the area and their roots. For several days, the park and amphitheater in Via Viquarterio are filled with folk music, the aromas of Southern cuisine, and traditions that speak of tarantella, pizzica, and the culture of Magna Graecia.
The heart of the festival is twofold: on one hand, gastronomy, with stalls offering traditional Calabrian dishes โ macaroni with goat ragรน, goat meat, frittole, crespelle, typical sweets; on the other hand, folk music and dance, with the tarantella stage, pizzica groups, and major evening concerts featuring artists from the Southern folk scene.
The program is completed by conferences on the history and culture of the South, educational workshops for schools, and exhibitions of traditional crafts and musical instruments. All with free entry, in a festive atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the Milan area.
The Magna Grecia Cultural Association will again present the festival Colors, Flavors, and Music of Magna Graecia in 2026, reaching its XXVII edition. The event is confirmed for the end of September in the park of Via Viquarterio in Pieve Emanuele, with the usual free-entry format combining Calabrian gastronomy, folk music, and Southern Italian culture.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Magna Grecia Cultural Association closer to the event. Based on recent editions, the festival typically includes:
