About Colori, Sapori e Musiche

For over twenty years, at the end of September, Pieve Emanuele becomes a window onto Southern Italy with 'Colori, Sapori e Musiche della Magna Grecia'. The festival, organized by the Associazione Culturale Magna Grecia, brings Calabrian and Southern roots to the Milan area: food stalls with typical dishes, from goat meat to frittole, pizzica and tarantella concerts, folk dances, conferences, and workshops. A journey into the traditions of the Mezzogiorno, with free admission.

Southern Italy in Pieve Emanuele

Colori, Sapori e Musiche della Magna Grecia is the festival that each year, in the second to last week of September, transforms Pieve Emanuele โ€” a municipality in South Milan within the Metropolitan City of Milan โ€” into a piece of Calabria and Southern Italy. Organized by the Associazione Culturale Magna Grecia with the patronage of the Municipality and the Calabria Region, it is a historic event, reaching its XXVI edition in 2025.

The festival stems from the bond of the Calabrian and Southern community in the area with their roots. For several days, the park and amphitheater in Via Viquarterio are filled with folk music, the aromas of Southern cuisine, and traditions that speak of tarantella, pizzica, and the culture of Magna Graecia.

Gastronomy, Folk Music, and Culture

The heart of the festival is twofold: on one hand, gastronomy, with stalls offering traditional Calabrian dishes โ€” pasta with goat ragรน, goat meat, frittole, crespelle, typical sweets; on the other, music and folk dancing, with the tarantella stage, pizzica groups, and large evening concerts that have featured artists from the Southern folk scene.

The program is rounded out by conferences on the history and culture of the South, educational workshops for schools, and exhibitions of traditional crafts and musical instruments. All with free admission, in a festive atmosphere that draws visitors from all over the Milan area.

Colori, Sapori e Musiche โ€” edition 2026

The XXVII edition of Colori, Sapori e Musiche della Magna Grecia is expected at the end of September 2026 in Pieve Emanuele, with a date around September 27th. The detailed program will be announced by the Associazione Culturale Magna Grecia closer to the event.

The Associazione Culturale Magna Grecia will again present the festival Colori, Sapori e Musiche della Magna Grecia in 2026, marking its XXVII edition. The event is confirmed for the end of September in the park of Via Viquarterio in Pieve Emanuele, with the usual free admission formula combining Calabrian gastronomy, folk music, and Southern Italian culture.
