Youth mountain running in the hills of Villadossola
The Collina dello Sport Trophy is one of the most anticipated events in the Piedmontese youth mountain running calendar. It takes place in Villadossola, in the heart of the Val d'Ossola, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, attracting hundreds of young athletes from all over Piedmont and beyond every year. The event is organized by the historic local club ASD GS Genzianella under the aegis of the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL), with the support of the Piedmont Regional Committee and the VCO Provincial Committee.
The race is run entirely within the Collina dello Sport in Villadossola, on a course that does not feature a single meter of asphalt. With a total elevation gain of about 300 meters, the track winds through meadows and trails in a natural setting that has captivated athletes and spectators alike over the years. Distances vary by category: from about 400 meters for the youngest 'Esordienti' to 4,800 meters for the 'Allievi' category, including 1,500 meters for the 'Ragazzi' and 2,900 to 3,800 meters for the 'Cadetti'.
The Trophy is more than just a local race; it is a significant stop on the regional calendar. The event awards the Piedmontese Individual Youth Championship for the Allievi, Cadetti, and Ragazzi categories (both boys and girls) and serves as the first leg of the Youth Club Championship, the ECO GIÃ’ Trophy, and the VCO Provincial Championship.
Behind the organization lies the passion of ASD GS Genzianella, a club deeply rooted in the Ossola territory and always committed to promoting athletics among the youth. The 2026 edition, the fourth in the Trophy's history, confirmed the event's success with a record-breaking turnout, proving it has become a staple in the sports calendar of Northern Piedmont.
The 4th edition of the Collina dello Sport Trophy took place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Villadossola, with a meeting time at 1:30 PM and the start of the races at 3:00 PM. The event, organized by ASD GS Genzianella under the aegis of FIDAL, awarded the Piedmontese Individual Youth Championship and opened the season for the ECO GIÃ’ Trophy and the VCO provincial championships.
On the entirely unpaved course of the Collina dello Sport, with about 300 meters of elevation gain, categories ranging from Esordienti to Allievi competed over distances between 400 and 4,800 meters.
