About Cineforum Orione
A historic festival in the heart of Messina
The Cineforum Orione is a cultural institution in Messina, Sicily. Established in 1963, it is now one of the longest-running auteur cinema festivals in Southern Italy. Its home is the Cinema Lux, a historic venue on Largo Seggiola that recently celebrated over seventy years of activity. Season after season, the Cineforum has guided generations of locals in discovering great auteur cinema, building a loyal community of members and enthusiasts.
What to expect
Each edition offers a curated journey through the best of international and Italian production: films awarded at major festivals, works by established directors, and new voices in contemporary cinema. The programming is organized into thematic sections—dedicated to French cinema, Italian cinema past and present, and global perspectives—and enriched by tributes and meetings with the author, bringing directors and protagonists to the theater to engage with the audience.
How it works
- The season runs from January to May, every Monday and Thursday.
- Three screenings per day: 4:00 PM, 6:30 PM, and 8:30 PM.
- The festival is reserved for members, with discounted subscription options for young people, students, and seniors.
- Bonus Cultura and Carta del Docente are accepted.

63rd Film Season
The 2026 season of Cineforum Orione offered a new journey into contemporary auteur cinema, with big international names, new voices, and films awarded at major festivals. Screenings took place at the Cinema Lux in Messina, every Monday and Thursday, with three daily shows at 4:00 PM, 6:30 PM, and 8:30 PM.
Among the thematic sections: French Poker, Italians of Yesterday and Today, Kaleidoscope on the World, the tribute The Marilyn Myth for the centenary of Marilyn Monroe's birth, and the Meeting with the Author sessions.
