A solidarity run through the vineyards of Cellino San Marco
The Ciccio Riccio Run - Run4Leo is a non-competitive running event that brings the streets of Cellino San Marco to lifeโa town in the province of Brindisi nestled in the countryside of northern Salento, Puglia. Conceived as a recreational sports event open to everyone, the run combines physical activity with a powerful message of solidarity, turning a spring Sunday into a grand community celebration.
The heart of the event is the historic Villa Neviera, a 19th-century estate surrounded by vineyards and woods, which serves as the home of Cantine Due Palme and the start/finish line. The course, approximately eight kilometers long and marked kilometer by kilometer, alternates between town roads and rural paths, with some unpaved sections through the vines and countryside. The "run or walk" format allows participants to tackle the route at their own pace, making it perfect for experienced runners, families, and enthusiasts of all ages.
The event is organized by the Associazione Podistica My Domo of San Pietro Vernotico, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cellino San Marco, and is dedicated to the memory of Leonardo Pignatelli, a founding member of the association who passed away prematurelyโhence the name "Run4Leo." Alongside the run, the event hosts a blood donation drive managed by the AVIS of Cellino San Marco in partnership with the Brindisi ASL mobile blood unit, as well as fundraising for charitable causes and those in need. The day is soundtracked by the DJs of Ciccio Riccio, the historic Apulian radio station that gives the event its name.
More than just a race, the Ciccio Riccio Run is an appointment that showcases the territory of Cellino San Marco and the province of Brindisi, combining grassroots sports promotion, health awareness, and community spirit. The setting among the vineyards of Cantine Due Palme and the musical atmosphere make it a signature event in the Salento running calendar, attracting participants from all over Puglia.
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, the Ciccio Riccio Run - Run4Leo returned to Cellino San Marco, in the province of Brindisi, with the start and finish at the historic Villa Neviera of the Cantine Due Palme. The non-competitive eight-kilometer route, winding through town streets and country roads with some unpaved sections among the vineyards, attracted runners and walkers of all ages.
Crossing the finish line first was Colonel Carlo Calcagni, a Paralympic athlete, with a time of 25 minutes and 31 seconds, who dedicated his victory to the spirit of solidarity rather than the sport itself. The morning, enlivened by the music of Ciccio Riccio DJs, hosted a blood donation drive with the Brindisi ASL mobile unit and the AVIS of Cellino San Marco, resulting in over forty donations, alongside a charity fundraiser. This edition confirmed the event as one of the most heartfelt solidarity gatherings in the Salento running calendar.
Start and finish at Villa Neviera - Cantine Due Palme, in Cellino San Marco (province of Brindisi, Puglia).
Registration is available online via the cronogare.it portal in the days leading up to the race. The entry fee is 10 euros and includes a commemorative event t-shirt.
The run takes place on a spring Sunday morning; the AVIS blood donation drive is active in the morning at the starting area, from approximately 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
