Padua's historic center lights up for the holidays with markets, wooden chalets, and Santa's House
Christmas in Padua is not a single market but a constellation of events that, from late November until January 6th, illuminate the historic center of the Veneto capital. The hub is the Eremitani Square Village, managed by ASCOM Confcommercio Padua, but the wooden chalets and stands multiply in the city's most picturesque squares: Piazza Duomo, Piazza dei Frutti, Piazza delle Erbe, and Piazza dei Signori.
The Eremitani Square Village is the beating heart of the festivities: inside, there are three unmissable areas โ Santa Claus's House, the Christmas market, and the traditional carousel rides. Numerous artisans offer unique products: jewelry, Christmas decorations, winter accessories, leather goods, herbal teas, typical sweets, jams, preserves, oils, and coffee. For the little ones, the arrival of Santa Claus who, after parading through the historic center, reaches his House to welcome children with their letters.
Completing the picture is the Artisan Christmas in Piazza Capitaniato, featuring around forty artisans, and the Christmas fairs that animate the historic squares of the center. Strolling among the chalets, under the lights and the scents of mulled wine and sweets, is the best way to experience the holiday atmosphere in a city โ Padua โ that stages its Christmas amidst art, tradition, and artisan shopping.
The 2026/27 edition of the Padua Christmas Markets will reprise the established format: the Eremitani Square Village (now in its 11th edition, managed by ASCOM Confcommercio Padua) with Santa's House, the market, and the carousel rides, along with the spread-out markets in the historic center squares โ Duomo, Frutti, Erbe, Signori โ plus the Artisan Christmas in Piazza Capitaniato featuring around forty artisans.
The exact dates for the 2026/27 edition have not yet been announced at the time of writing; the usual opening period, as in previous editions, runs from late November until January 6th (closed on December 25th and January 1st).
