About Christmas in Tuscania

From December 14, 2025, to January 6, 2026, Tuscania—an Etruscan and medieval jewel in the province of Viterbo—dresses up for the holidays with "Christmas in Tuscania." The event features a Christmas village with food and tastings at the Municipal Garden, children's workshops, the arrival of Santa Claus by carriage, gospel concerts, the "Tuscania in musica" classical music festival, the lighting of the Agrialbero, and the traditional arrival of the Befana. Nearly a month of mostly free events, organized by the Pro Loco in collaboration with local associations, schools, and businesses.

Christmas in the heart of the ancient city

When the festive lights glow among the medieval towers and walls, Tuscania—one of the most fascinating destinations in the Viterbo Tuscia region, famous for the Romanesque basilicas of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore—becomes an open-air Christmas stage. "Christmas in Tuscania" is the holiday program promoted by the Municipality of Tuscania together with the Pro Loco of Tuscania APS and a dense network of local associations, schools, and businesses. From December 14, 2025, to January 6, 2026, the historic center, the Municipal Garden, theaters, and churches host concerts, shows, markets, and entertainment for all ages.

The Christmas Village at the Municipal Garden

The heart of the event is the Christmas and Food Village set up in the Municipal Garden: stalls and stands with tastings organized by the Pro Loco, Christmas workshops for children, and, on the Sunday before Christmas, the arrival of Santa Claus by carriage accompanied by the Municipal Band's parade along Via Roma. It is a time when the city comes together, surrounded by the scent of sweets, music, and entertainment for the little ones.

Holiday music: gospel, opera, and "Tuscania in musica"

The musical program is surprisingly rich for a town of a few thousand inhabitants. It ranges from opera at the Teatro Pocci to the major gospel concert by Tuscia in Jazz at the Teatro Veriano Luchetti, and the "Tuscania in musica" festival, which brings chamber music to the city's monumental sites between December 27 and 30. Highlights include cellist Lucia Fiorelli with pianist Monica Pia Galullo, the guitar duo of Gian Marco Ciampa and Pietro Locatto, and a matinée dedicated to young talents from international guitar workshops, held between the Teatro Rivellino and the former church of Santa Croce, with free admission or discounted tickets.

Traditions: the Agrialbero and the Befana

Alongside the musical events, the most iconic traditions endure: the lighting of the Agrialbero in Viale Trieste, a "farmer's" Christmas tree that celebrates the agricultural soul of the Lazio Maremma, and the arrival of the Befana at the Municipal Garden on January 6, which closes the festivities with sweets and stockings for children. There are also unique proposals like the Christmas Hydrobikes Day and Christmas in the pool at the Aquatix facility.

The legacy of "Natale'Insieme"

The current format builds on the legacy of "Natale'Insieme," the festival launched by the Pro Loco in the winter of 2023-2024 within the spaces of the 15th-century Sant'Agostino seminary, featuring a Santa Claus village animated by elves, a nativity scene exhibition, and the Living Nativity. Year after year, the project has expanded into a widespread program that involves the entire city.

Why visit

  • A month of mostly free, family-friendly events
  • Quality concerts (gospel, opera, chamber music) in historic theaters and churches
  • The unique charm of Tuscania in winter: walls, towers, and Romanesque basilicas without the crowds
  • Tuscia products and flavors at the Christmas and Food Village

For those visiting the Lazio region during the holidays, "Christmas in Tuscania" is the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Viterbo in its most intimate and luminous guise.

Christmas in Tuscania — edition 2026

The 2025-2026 edition of "Christmas in Tuscania" enlivened the city from December 14 to January 6 with a widespread program organized by the Municipality, Pro Loco, and local associations: Christmas and Food Village at the Municipal Garden, arrival of Santa Claus by carriage, gospel concert by Tuscia in Jazz, the "Tuscania in musica" chamber music festival, the lighting of the Agrialbero, and the arrival of the Befana to close the festivities.

The 2025-2026 program intertwined music, tradition, and family entertainment. The Municipal Garden hosted the Christmas and Food Village with Pro Loco tastings and children's workshops, while the city's theaters and churches welcomed opera, gospel, and chamber music concerts. Among the most popular moments were the lighting of the Agrialbero on Viale Trieste, the Municipal Band's parade with the arrival of Santa Claus by carriage, and the arrival of the Befana on January 6, which concluded the holiday season.
