The international choral competition at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo
Chorus Inside Sicily is the International Choral Festival that brings Palermo, the capital of the Sicily Region, to life every spring, turning it into a meeting point for choral groups from all over Europe. The event is promoted by Chorus Inside International, a choral federation affiliated with Federcori (Italian Choral Federation), in collaboration with Chorus Inside Sicilia, and is held under the patronage of the City of Palermo.
The highlight of the festival is the International Choral Competition, held in the prestigious hall of the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, located in Piazza Ruggero Settimo. Here, choirs compete before a qualified jury in various categories, ranging from sacred music to folk and popular repertoires, presenting programs that span from classical polyphony to contemporary harmonies. The awards ceremony concludes the competition day, celebrating the most deserving groups.
The inaugural edition brought together seventeen choirs from Italy, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and other nations, confirming the international appeal of the event. The artistic direction is entrusted to Maestro Salvatore Di Blasi, while the presidency of Chorus Inside International is held by Dr. Davide Recchia. Each edition attracts hundreds of singers who, beyond the competition, share rehearsals, concerts, and social moments.
The festival program goes far beyond the competition itself. Participating groups stay in Sicily for several days, alternating rehearsals with an opening concert hosted in charming venues such as the Church of Santa Rosalia in Palermo or the Basilica of Tindari, and a guided tour to discover the historic center of Palermo, where Arab-Norman style blends with Baroque and Art Nouveau. It is an opportunity to combine a passion for choral singing with the discovery of Sicily's artistic and landscape heritage.
Choosing Palermo as the venue is no coincidence: the city, with its historic theaters and UNESCO World Heritage monuments, offers an ideal setting for an event that makes beauty and cultural exchange its distinctive trait. Chorus Inside Sicily thus joins the rich calendar of musical events in Sicily, helping to promote choral culture and cultural tourism in the capital.
The second edition of Chorus Inside Sicily was held in Palermo from May 1st to 5th, 2026. The heart of the event was the International Choral Competition at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, with performances divided between sacred music (May 3rd, also at the Basilica of Tindari) and folk and popular repertoire (May 4th in Palermo).
In the A1 category, the San Salvo Incanto choir, directed by Loredana Miscia, placed third with the piece Emozioni antiche. The festival confirmed its formula combining competition, concerts, and guided tours to discover Palermo, promoted by Chorus Inside International of Federcori.
The international competition takes place at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, in Piazza Ruggero Settimo in Palermo. Concerts and side events are held in churches and other locations throughout the area (Church of Santa Rosalia in Palermo, Basilica of Tindari).
The Politeama is in the center of Palermo, reachable on foot from the central station or by bus. The Falcone-Borsellino Airport in Punta Raisi is about 35 km away and is connected by trains and shuttle buses.
Public admission to the competition at the Politeama is generally free. Choir participation is by registration, with a fee that includes accommodation, excursions, and concerts. For information: [email protected].
