The flower market and floral balcony competition in the fishing village of the Amalfi Coast
Cetara in Fiore is the spring initiative of the Pro Loco Cetara-Costa d'Amalfi APS, promoted with the support of the Municipality of Cetara, in the Province of Salerno, Campania. This is not a festival built on a stage; the village itself becomes the scenery. On one side, the flower and plant market takes over Largo Marina for an entire day, a seaside square just steps from the harbor; on the other, the competition calls on the people of Cetara to adorn their buildings, balconies, terraces, windows, and historic alleys with plants and flowers.
The market is the most visible highlight of the event. For a whole day, Largo Marina transforms into a temporary garden: stalls from florists and nurserymen from across the coast and the Salerno hinterland display ornamental plants, seasonal flowers, herbs, succulents, and floral arrangements. Regular exhibitors include Creazioni floreali Paradise from Vietri sul Mare, known for their colorful displays. In recent years, the market has also been joined by the Pro Loco's women's group, Prorosa, offering handmade crafts such as colorful bags, phone pouches, purses, and small keychains.
The heart of the initiative is the competition itself, which reached its thirteenth edition in 2026. For several weeks, the inhabitants of Cetara are invited to participate actively by embellishing the spaces overlooking the village streets with plants, flowers, and decorations. A committee of experts then tours the town to evaluate the most beautiful and original displays, rewarding creativity, color harmony, and the ability to enhance the space. In previous editions, the competition period took place between May and June, with the awards ceremony integrated into one of the Pro Loco's major summer events: in 2024, for example, the prizes were presented during the Notte delle Lampare.
Cetara is one of the smallest and most authentic villages on the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast: with just over two thousand inhabitants, an active fishing fleet, and a tradition of anchovy colatura and tuna that has made it a recognized gastronomic capital. The urban fabric consists of clustered houses, stairs, arches, and narrow alleys rising from the sea: a setting that perfectly suits a floral decoration contest, as every flowered balcony can be seen from afar, changing the face of the entire village. The organizers' stated goal is precisely this: to enhance the village, increase the quality of public spaces, and improve the visitor experience at the start of the tourist season.
Visiting the market is free and open to all. The competition is reserved for the residents of Cetara, who participate by decorating their private spaces visible from the street: no stage is needed, just a balcony. For information on dates, rules, and registration, please contact the Pro Loco office on Via Porto or check the association's official channels.
The 13th edition of Cetara in Fiore had its public highlight on Sunday, May 17, 2026, when Largo Marina hosted the annual flower and plant market. A sunny day greeted the event, with the Cetara waterfront transformed into a temporary garden overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Among the exhibitors, Claudio Santoriello, owner of the Creazioni floreali Paradise nursery in Vietri sul Mare, returned with flowers and plants of all types and colors. Enriching the market this year, the Pro Loco's women's group, Prorosa, also joined in with handmade crafts: colorful bags, phone pouches, purses, and small keychains.
Parallel to the market, the competition that gives the event its name continued, with village residents busy decorating buildings, balconies, terraces, windows, and alleys; the evaluation of the displays is entrusted to a committee that tours the village streets, and the awards ceremony is traditionally included in one of the Pro Loco's summer events.
