The Ferragosto patronal feast in the heart of Val di Pejo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Celentino Festival is the patronal feast of Celentino, a small village in the Municipality of Peio, located high in the Val di Pejo within the Stelvio National Park, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Tied to the Feast of the Assumption and the Ferragosto celebrations, the festival brings the characteristic Piazza El Plazol to life every year with two days dedicated to tradition, conviviality, and local culture.
Beyond being a popular celebration, the Celentino Festival retains a deep religious and communal significance. The devotional heart of the event is the Holy Mass with a procession on August 15th, the day of the Assumption, which brings together residents and holidaymakers along the village streets. For the small community of Celentino, the festival is above all an opportunity to gather, where generations meet and mountain customs are passed down.
A distinctive element of the festival is the Ecomuseum in the square initiative, which brings the heritage of the Val di Pejo Ecomuseum to the stalls and workshops. Demonstrations of ancient crafts, artisan work, and activities for all ages tell the story of the valley's traditional life, covering weaving, wool processing, and the rural knowledge preserved in the villages of Celentino, Celledizzo, and Strombiano.
The festival evenings are animated by live music, tributes, and dancing in the square, with the participation of local groups and artists who entertain the public until late. There is no shortage of traditional Trentino cuisine: aperitifs, dinners, and lunches featuring mountain classics prepared by local volunteers. Show cooking and regional menus complete the gastronomic offering in a simple and authentic atmosphere.
Immersed in the setting of Val di Pejo and the Stelvio National Park, the Celentino Festival is an excellent opportunity to discover one of the most pristine valleys in Trentino, combining the exploration of Alpine nature with the experience of a genuine village feast. It is an event that, despite the intimate scale of a mountain hamlet, manages to convey the warmth and hospitality of the Peio community.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet communicated the official dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Celentino Festival in Peio. Based on previous years, the patronal feast is expected to return to Piazza El Plazol around the Ferragosto period, with the usual mix of religious moments, Ecomuseum initiatives, live music, and gastronomic events. For confirmation of dates and the program, we recommend consulting the Val di Pejo Tourist Consortium.
