The patronal feast of Magliano in Toscana featuring a historical pageant, flag-throwers, and Maremma traditions
The Celebrations in Honor of the SS. Annunziata are the patronal feast of Magliano in Toscana, a charming walled village in the Province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. For three days in early May, the historic center enclosed by medieval walls and the central Piazza della Repubblica become the stage for a celebration that blends devotion, historical re-enactment, and local conviviality.
The festival is dedicated to the Santissima Annunziata, the town's patron saint, and is deeply rooted in the community life of this corner of the Maremma. It is an event that mixes the sacred and the secular: the religious dimension is accompanied by a costume pageant, games, music, and fine dining, in true Tuscan tradition.
The heart of the event is the historical pageant in costume that parades along the village streets, accompanied by the brass band and flag-throwers. During the festival, the Maglio d'Argento (Silver Mallet) award is presented, named after the ancient municipal coat of arms: a silver shield with a vertical gold mallet, a symbol of Magliano's identity. The parade, organized in collaboration with the Associazione I Frascaioli, brings the atmosphere of the village's past to life for visitors.
The program is rich and varied: flag-throwers, concerts by the Corpo Bandistico G. Verdi, bird of prey displays by the Falconieri di Maremma, a literary marathon, a concert by the Madrigalisti, village games, tombola, and a treasure hunt. Sunday concludes with the curious and highly anticipated Palio della Rotoballa, a sporting and recreational challenge between the local districts, and the evocative ceremony of planting a tree for each child born during the year.
Throughout the three days, the food stall, where you can savor Maremma cuisine, and the craft market remain open. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Magliano in Toscana together with the Associazione I Frascaioli and the Polisportiva Maglianese, with the support of the Municipality.
Visiting Magliano in Toscana during the festivities is also an opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating villages in the Grosseto Maremma, enclosed within medieval and Renaissance walls and famous for its centuries-old olive groves. The SS. Annunziata festival is the ideal time to experience the authenticity of this southern Tuscany territory.
The 2026 edition confirmed the traditional calendar of the Magliano in Toscana patronal feast, with three days of events spread between Piazza della Repubblica and the village streets, from May 1st to 3rd.
For all three days, the food stall and the craft market were active.
The historical pageant with the Maglio d'Argento award ceremony, the bird of prey display by the Falconieri di Maremma, and the Sunday Palio della Rotoballa were the most anticipated moments of the edition.
