The June 24th celebration in the village of Presicce-Acquarica
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Celebrations in Honor of Saint John the Baptist are among the most anticipated religious and popular events in Presicce-Acquarica, a municipality formed in 2019 from the merger of the two ancient villages of Presicce and Acquarica del Capo, in the province of Lecce. The anniversary falls around June 24th, the day the Church celebrates the nativity of Saint John the Baptist, transforming the historic center for an evening into a place of devotion and celebration.
The bond between the territory and the Baptist is ancient and profound: the Church of Saint John the Baptist stands in Presicce-Acquarica, a building of fine craftsmanship that testifies to the long-standing popular veneration of the saint. The festival keeps this memory alive through religious rites and, above all, the evening procession that winds from Piazza Municipio through the village streets, accompanied by the faithful and the community.
As is customary for Salento patronal feasts, the religious aspect is followed by a more convivial moment: Piazza Municipio becomes the stage for shows and concerts that enliven the evening until late. It is a time when the town gathers amidst music, lights, and social connection, in a joyful atmosphere that involves both young and old.
Those who attend the festivities also discover one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Presicce is known as the "city of oil," famous for its underground oil mills, ancient factories carved into the rock where olive oil was produced for centuries. The historic center, with its noble palaces, courtyards, and Baroque churches, provides a splendid backdrop for the festival. Located in the Capo di Leuca, at the southern tip of Salento, the village combines its religious dimension with the charm of a territory rich in history and landscapes.
The celebrations in honor of Saint John the Baptist represent much more than a religious event: they are an opportunity to experience the identity and traditions of this part of Puglia, where the sacred and the popular continue to intertwine just as they have for centuries.
The 2026 edition of the Celebrations in Honor of Saint John the Baptist in Presicce-Acquarica does not yet have an official program. Based on tradition, the festival is held around June 24th and includes a religious procession in the historic center, followed by shows and concerts in Piazza Municipio. We recommend checking the channels of the Municipality of Presicce-Acquarica and the parish to learn about dates and events as soon as they are announced.
