The second carnival in the Veneto region after Venice, with large allegorical floats
The Ceggia Boys' Carnival, in Eastern Venice in the province of Venice, is considered the second most important carnival in the Veneto region after Venice's. With over seventy years of history, it is one of the most cherished events in the area, attracting thousands of visitors.
The heart of the festival is the large allegorical floats, meticulously crafted by local groups who compete in a contest. Each float presents a theme—often topical satire or social commentary—with costumes, choreography, and masks that bring the town's streets to life.
The program includes a captivating night parade and daytime masked processions that wind through the center of Ceggia amidst music and colors. Alongside the parades, there are theatrical performances, musical events, fireworks displays, sports tournaments, food and wine stalls, and educational projects involving local schools.
Organized by the Boys' Carnival committee, the event is the result of the hard work of many volunteers and represents an identity-defining occasion for Ceggia, uniting different generations around the carnival tradition.
The 73rd edition of the Ceggia Boys' Carnival reaffirms the event's status as the second carnival in the Veneto region after Venice. The calendar kicks off on February 1st with the "Gabriele Zago" Memorial, a charity 5-a-side football tournament, and continues with musical, sports, and theatrical events until the grand finale on Fat Tuesday, with a possible recovery on February 22nd in case of inclement weather.
There are three parades: the captivating night parade on Saturday, February 7th, followed by two daytime masked processions on February 15th and 17th. Six floats are competing, each addressing a current or social theme, from fake news to the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence.
Ceggia is located in Eastern Venice, reachable by car from the A4 motorway (San Donà di Piave exit) and by train on the Venice–Trieste line. The parades take place in the town center.
The parades and events in the square are free to enter; food and wine stalls and some activities are ticketed.
The Carnival is held between late January and February, with the grand finale on Fat Tuesday.
