The Cavezzo masked festival in Piazza Martiri della Libertà
The Cavezzo Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the festive calendar of the Municipality of Cavezzo, in the Bassa modenese area, province of Modena. It is a public square festival designed for children, families, and the entire community, which gathers every year in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, in the heart of the town, for a day of colors, masks, and fun. The event is organized by Pro Loco Cavezzese with the patronage of the Municipality of Cavezzo.
The heart of the festival is the masked parade, accompanied by entertainment and music, which winds through the square in a riot of colorful costumes. At the center of the celebrations is the costume contest, which awards prizes in various categories: the most beautiful mask for children and adults, the smallest mask, the funniest mask for children and adults, the most original mask, and the largest themed masked group. There is also the traditional candy toss, with the throwing of sweets and small gifts that delight the children.
One of the tastiest attractions is the Golden Chiacchiera (Chiacchera d'Oro) contest, dedicated to one of the symbolic sweets of Carnival. Participants can bring their homemade chiacchiere to the organization's stand, where a jury will taste them and award the best ones. It is a delicious and convivial way to celebrate the Emilian Carnival confectionery tradition.
The day begins in the afternoon with entertainment for children, featuring games, activities, and fun. In the evening, the festival continues for adults with the Aperi-Carnival, a convivial moment with aperitifs and a DJ set. A refreshment stand remains open throughout the event, offering food and drinks.
The Cavezzo Carnival is part of the rich Carnival tradition of Emilia-Romagna, featuring village parades, masks, and typical sweets. It is an opportunity to experience the community spirit of Cavezzo, gather in the square, and share a day of intergenerational joy, between popular folklore and fun for all ages.
