About Castle Fire

The Castle Fire is one of the most anticipated events of the Molise Adriatic summer: every Ferragosto, Termoli re-enacts the Ottoman assault of 1566, when Pialì Pasha's troops attacked the city. At midnight, a grand fireworks display engulfs the walls of the Swabian Castle, simulating its burning, while in the afternoon, a costume parade re-enacts 16th-century Saracens and fishermen. The seafront comes alive with street food stalls and music.

The Memory of a Siege

The Castle Fire is the historical re-enactment with which Termoli, in the province of Campobasso, commemorates the Ottoman assault of 1566: in that year, the troops of the Turkish corsair Pialì Pasha attacked and devastated the Adriatic city. The event, held on Ferragosto (August 15th), transforms the memory of that dramatic episode into one of the most beloved spectacles of the Molise summer.

The Fireworks Display

The highlight arrives at midnight, when an impressive fireworks display engulfs the walls of the Swabian Castle, a symbol of Termoli, simulating the burning of the ancient fortress. The light and fire show, admired by thousands of spectators on the seafront and from the beaches, is the culmination of the evening.

Costume Parade and Seafront Celebration

In the afternoon, a costume parade re-enacts the protagonists of the siege—16th-century Saracens and fishermen—bringing the historic center to life. The north seafront fills with street food stalls and music, in a festive atmosphere that combines historical re-enactment and entertainment. The event is part of the Termoli Summer program.

Castle Fire — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Castle Fire takes place on August 15th in Termoli: in the afternoon, a costume parade with 16th-century Saracens and fishermen, street food stalls and music on the north seafront, and at midnight, the grand fireworks display engulfing the walls of the Swabian Castle, re-enacting the Ottoman assault of 1566.

For Ferragosto 2026, Termoli renews the re-enactment of the Ottoman assault of 1566. The day includes in the afternoon the costume parade with 16th-century Saracens and fishermen, entertainment on the north seafront with street food stalls and music, and the grand finale at midnight with the fireworks display among the walls of the Swabian Castle.
