The float parade in the Monti Dauni mountains
In the heart of the Daunian Subappennino, at an altitude of over 600 meters, the small village of Castelluccio Valmaggiore (Foggia province, Puglia) celebrates its Carnival every yearโone of the most anticipated and cherished events for the local community. For one day, the narrow streets of the historic center, overlooked by an ancient polygonal tower, are filled with color, music, and cheer, turning the entire village into a grand open-air theater.
The highlight of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats, crafted with passion and ingenuity by local groups and artisans. These large papier-mรขchรฉ structures, often inspired by current events, fairy tales, and popular characters, travel through the village accompanied by masked groups, children in costume, and plenty of music. The most recent edition featured eight floats, a testament to the commitment and vitality of local associations.
The Castelluccio Valmaggiore Carnival is much more than just a parade: it is a moment of togetherness that involves all generations. Families, children, and young people participate in masks and costumes, while confetti and streamers bring the village squares to life. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Castelluccio Valmaggiore in collaboration with local associations, is free and open to all, attracting visitors from neighboring towns in the Monti Dauni.

The Carnival represents one of the popular traditions that mark the year in the village, alongside patron saint feasts and summer events, helping to keep the sense of community alive in this authentic corner of Daunian Puglia, in the province of Foggia.
