About Castello diVino

Castello diVino is a free-entry food and wine festival hosted by the Municipality of Celano, in the province of L'Aquila, dedicated to the wines and traditional products of Abruzzo. The heart of the event is the inner courtyard of the Castello Piccolomini, with its evocative medieval cistern, where three days of tastings, food stalls, educational workshops, thematic exhibitions, roaming music, and DJ sets take place. The artistic direction is curated by Cesare Paris.

Castello diVino, the wine of Abruzzo at Castello Piccolomini

Castello diVino is a food and wine festival promoted by the municipal administration of Celano, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Marsica region. The event was created with the goal of promoting and showcasing the excellence of the local area and the entire Abruzzo Region, using the inner courtyard of the Castello Piccolominiโ€”one of the most fascinating fortresses in Abruzzo, featuring its characteristic medieval cisternโ€”as a backdrop.

A journey through wines and traditional products

The program revolves around exhibitions and tastings of local wines and traditional products, offered in collaboration with leading trade associations, local businesses, and producers. Past editions have featured the Consortium for the Protection of Abruzzo Wines and local wineries, guiding visitors to discover the region's signature grape varieties, from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo to Trebbiano and Cerasuolo.

More than just tastings

Alongside the tasting stalls, Castello diVino offers a rich calendar of side events:

  • educational workshops and experiences also aimed at local students;
  • thematic exhibitions, including photographic displays dedicated to rural life and Marsican traditions;
  • conferences and meetings on wine, nutrition, and local culture;
  • roaming music, folk choirs, local marching bands, and evenings with DJ sets.

A free event in the heart of the Marsica region

Admission to the festival is free, with the aim of making the discovery of Abruzzo's food and wine heritage accessible to everyone in an exceptional historical setting. The Castello Piccolomini, which also houses the Torlonia Collection and the Museum of Sacred Art of the Marsica, thus becomes the ideal stage for a weekend that combines gastronomy, culture, and popular traditions, attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors to Celano from across the province of L'Aquila and the entire Abruzzo region.

Three days dedicated to the wines and traditional products of Abruzzo, with free-entry tastings, food stalls, workshops, exhibitions, roaming music, and DJ sets, under the artistic direction of Cesare Paris.

After its autumn debut in 2024, Castello diVino returned to Celano for its second edition, hosted from May 8 to 10, 2026, in the courtyard of the Castello Piccolomini. The event, organized by the Municipality of Celano with artistic direction by Cesare Paris, confirmed the formula that combines Abruzzo's food and wine excellence with the historic setting of the fortress. Throughout the weekend, the public was able to participate in wine and local product tastings, workshops, thematic exhibitions, and musical moments with roaming music and DJ sets, all with free admission.
