The premier event for international folk dance and music in the heart of the Susa Valley
The Castagna d'Oro International Folklore Festival is one of the most enduring and cherished events in Susa, located in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Each year, the festival draws folk groups from different continents, who bring their unique dances, songs, and traditional attire to the Susa Valley, transforming the city into a vibrant crossroads of global folk culture.
The heart of the festival is the grand evening performance held in Piazza della Repubblica, in the historic center of Susa. On stage, guest groups take turns performing: high-energy dances, tribal rhythms, elegant choreography, and traditional dress tell the story of each participating country's identity. In recent years, the city has welcomed troupes from Colombia, Kenya, Slovakia, Mexico, Paraguay, Russia, Serbia, and Taiwan, reflecting the event's truly international spirit.
The event is organized by the Associazione Pro Susa APS, a historic local Pro Loco association affiliated with UNPLI, which has been promoting Susa and its territory for over sixty years. The local Folkloristic Group was also founded by Pro Susa in 1957; its dancers and musicians share Piedmontese traditions and act as hosts during the festival. The "Castagna d'Oro" (Golden Chestnut) is the symbol that gives the festival its name, highlighting the deep connection between the Susa Valley and its chestnut forests.
As part of the Susa municipal summer calendar, the "Castagna d'Oro" is more than just a show: it is an opportunity for meeting, exchange, and celebration that involves the entire lower Susa Valley community. Admission to the evening performances is free, and the setting of the historic center, at the foot of the Alps and just steps from the city's Roman monuments, makes the experience even more evocative.
The 2026 edition of the Castagna d'Oro will be held in Susa from Thursday, August 27th to Sunday, August 30th, 2026, featuring performances by international folk groups in Piazza della Repubblica. The dates are official and included in the summer calendar presented by the Susa municipal administration.
As per tradition, the festival will offer free evening shows featuring dances, music, and costumes from the guest countries, under the direction of the Associazione Pro Susa APS and with the participation of the Susa Folkloristic Group.
The detailed program โ including the names of participating groups and the schedule for each evening โ will be published by the organizers closer to the event. This page will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
The detailed program for the 59th edition (participating folk groups, evening schedules, and any potential street parades) will be announced by the Associazione Pro Susa in the weeks leading up to the event. The evenings will take place in Piazza della Repubblica from August 27th to 30th, 2026.
Susa is easily accessible by car via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway (Susa exit). By train, the Susa station is connected to Bussoleno and the line to Turin. The performances take place in Piazza della Repubblica, in the historic center, which is accessible on foot.
Admission to the evening performances in the square is free.
