A Christmas market at the gates of Rome

The Casal dei Pini Market was established in November 2025 in the municipality of Formello, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the heart of the Lazio region. It takes place in the pine forest of the Casal dei Pini shopping center in Le Rughe, the most populous district in the area, located just over a kilometer and a half from the historic center of Formello and about forty-five minutes by car from Rome. The event is held monthly—every second Saturday of the month—but the December edition is the one the public looks forward to most, as the market dresses up for Christmas and becomes a must-visit stop for holiday shopping.

Fifty stalls of crafts and collectibles

The format is that of a high-quality market, featuring a curated selection of about fifty exhibitors. This is not a general commercial fair: the organizers select the artisans one by one, prioritizing those who truly produce their goods by hand.

• Exquisite craftsmanship: ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, and decorated or embroidered textiles.
• Creative hobbies and original gift items, with a strong Christmas theme in December: tree decorations, nativity scenes, candles, and gift sets.
• Vintage and collectibles: small antiques, prints, curiosities, and vintage items.
• Local flavors and typical products, with tastings that accompany your stroll through the stalls.

Lazio honey and the educational beehive

The Christmas edition in December 2025 hosted the Historical Museum of Apiculture, which offered free tastings of Lazio honeys and an educational beehive designed for children: a small outdoor workshop to understand how bees live and how honey is made. It is this type of initiative that gives the market a familiar and educational character, beyond its commercial aspect, making it a perfect outing for the little ones.

The pine forest as a stage

The added value of the event is the location. The pine forest surrounding the shopping center offers shade, space, and an outdoor atmosphere very different from city markets: the stalls are arranged among the pines, visitors stroll at a leisurely pace, and children can move around safely. The same space hosts the municipal market of Formello every Monday morning and welcomes other events organized by the center throughout the year, such as the Country Fest in June.

Formello and the Roman countryside

Visitors coming from outside the area can combine a trip to the market with exploring the surroundings. Formello preserves a medieval village clustered around Palazzo Chigi, now home to the Agro Veiente Museum, and is located within the Veio Regional Park, the protected area that guards the remains of the ancient Etruscan city of Veii, one of the most important archaeological sites in southern Etruria. A morning at the market and an afternoon among the Etruscan necropolises or along the park's trails make for a complete day in northern Lazio, far from the crowds of central Rome.

A young event that is growing

With only two editions behind it in 2025—the debut on November 8th and the Christmas event on December 13th—the Casal dei Pini Market is a young venture, promoted by JT Events of the Jericho group. Its monthly frequency has already made it a reference point for the residents of Le Rughe, Formello, Sacrofano, and neighboring towns along the Via Cassia, and the Christmas format is the one that attracts the widest audience.
