International festival of animation cinema, comics, and games
Cartoon Club & RiminiComix is one of the longest-running and most beloved Italian festivals dedicated to animation cinema, comics, and games. Founded in 1985 and organized by Acli Arte e Spettacolo Rimini, it animates the Municipality of Rimini, in the province of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna), every July, transforming the historic center, museums, and the seafront into a large space dedicated to pop culture. The event attracts over 200,000 attendees, confirming itself as one of the main summer events in the sector in Italy.
The review unites two complementary hearts. Cartoon Club is the international animation film festival, with a rich short film competition (around 200 works selected from around the world), screenings, previews, masterclasses, and creative workshops spread across cinemas, halls, and cultural venues in the historic center. RiminiComix, on the other hand, is the more festive and popular part: the large comic and pop culture market exhibition set up in Federico Fellini Park, overlooking the sea, with stands from publishers, artists, gadgets, a lively self-area, and a food area.
Cosplay is one of the liveliest souls of the event: parades, official contests, and colorful gatherings fill the square and beaches of Rimini. There are also concerts dedicated to cartoon theme songs and anime music, meetings with cartoonists and directors, book presentations, and evening shows. Exhibitions, hosted in the city's museums and historic spaces, accompany each edition with displays dedicated to the great masters of comics and illustration.
With free admission, evening hours, and a program ranging from auteur animation to popular entertainment, Cartoon Club & RiminiComix is designed for enthusiasts, collectors, families, and the curious. The setting of the Romagna Riviera, between the beach, the historic center, and the Fellini atmosphere, makes the experience unique: a week in which Rimini becomes the Italian capital of summer pop culture.
The 42nd edition takes place in Rimini from July 12 to 19, 2026, with the heart of RiminiComix at Federico Fellini Park from July 16 to 19. The event confirms its dual soul between animation cinema, comics, games, and pop culture, with free admission.
The protagonist of this edition is the master Giorgio Cavazzano, author of the official poster and recipient of the Career Award. The exhibition dedicated to him, "Giorgio Cavazzano, the mark of a master," is on display at the Museo della Cittร until September 6.
The festival features around 200 animated short films in competition, previews, masterclasses, and workshops. Among the events are the exhibition by artist John Nevarez (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), concerts dedicated to anime theme songs and music (Mai dire Goku, Raggi Fotonici, Mika Kobayashi, Giorgio Vanni's DJ set), the official cosplay contest, Crossover Wrestling, and the grand "cosplay dawn" on July 18 on the beach.
Rimini is served by the train station on the Adriatic line (Bologna-Ancona) and by Federico Fellini Airport. Federico Fellini Park is a short walk from the sea, near the Grand Hotel, while exhibitions and screenings are spread throughout the historic center, reachable on foot or by public transport.
Admission to the event is free. At Federico Fellini Park, the RiminiComix pavilions are generally open from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM, while the food area is active from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
During the peak summer season, it is advisable to book accommodation well in advance. Rimini offers numerous hotels along the seafront. Summer clothing, water, and comfortable shoes are recommended for moving between the historic center and the park.
