The festival of photography for new generations in Carpi
Carpi Foto Fest is one of the most original photographic exhibitions in Emilia-Romagna, because it doesn't originate from the shots of established photographers but from the perspective of new generations. Every year, the festival transforms the Sala dei Cervi of Palazzo dei Pio, in the historic center of Carpi (Province of Modena), into a large exhibition space where hundreds of images created by children, girls, and boys who participated in photography workshops in local schools are presented.
The event is promoted by the Gruppo Fotografico Grandangolo BFI-APS, chaired by Danilo Baraldi, with the patronage of the Municipality of Carpi, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Province of Modena, and FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations). The underlying idea is simple and powerful: to use photography as a tool for storytelling and expression for young people, allowing them to convey what would be difficult to express in words. The workshops involve nursery schools, middle schools, and high schools in the city.
The heart of the festival is the exhibitions set up in the Sala dei Cervi, but the program also includes book presentations, discussion forums with sociologists and photography experts, and the evocative face-to-face readings of the works, an emotional and engaging experience that creates a dialogue between the images and the observer. Events also take place at the Auditorium Loria, another symbolic cultural venue in Carpi.
Part of Carpi's rich event calendar, one of the most elegant art cities in the Modenese plain with its famous Piazza dei Martiri and the monumental Palazzo dei Pio, Carpi Foto Fest is now an anticipated event that combines a passion for photography with a focus on education and young people. Admission to all exhibitions and events is free.
For its tenth anniversary, Carpi Foto Fest 2026 chooses the theme 'Future Participle โ Possible Worlds', exploring the connection between the present and the future in the possible worlds imagined by new generations. Approximately 600 images are exhibited in the Sala dei Cervi of Palazzo dei Pio, the result of 7 projects involving 268 young people aged 11 to 19, along with another 250 students from the 'Da Vinci' ITS and children from the Arcobaleno Nursery School. The young participants addressed themes such as bullying, friendship, and their visions of the future, with great creativity and expressive freedom.
The exhibitions are held in the Sala dei Cervi of Palazzo dei Pio, in Piazza dei Martiri, in the historic center of Carpi (MO). Some meetings take place at the Auditorium Loria.
Carpi is easily reachable by train (VeronaโBologna line, Carpi station) and by car from the A22 Brennero motorway (Carpi exit) or the A1. Palazzo dei Pio is a short walk from the station.
Free admission to all exhibitions and events. The exhibitions can be visited every Thursday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
