Artisan crafts in the heart of Macugnaga, at the foot of Monte Rosa
The Carnival Market is one of the most anticipated events of the winter season in Macugnaga, a charming village in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont, nestled at the foot of the majestic east face of Monte Rosa. For an entire day, the Piazza del Municipio, in the heart of the Staffa district, comes alive with colors, scents, and creativity, turning into an open-air stage dedicated to artistic craftsmanship.
The market brings together works by artisans from the Ossola region and the North West, gathered through the collaboration between the Pro Loco of Macugnaga and the Arti e Sapori di Nord Ovest association. At the stalls, you can discover handmade jewelry, unique accessories, home decor, and original ornaments, each the result of the passion and dedication of its creator. Every exhibitor tells a story of technique, imagination, and love for artisanal work.
The Carnival Market is not just an opportunity to buy unique pieces: it is a true festive day designed for everyone. Visitors can chat with the artisans, observe creative processes up close, and participate in small workshops and demonstrations. For the little ones, there is entertainment, games, and themed activities, while the Carnival atmosphere adds a joyful touch to the entire event.
The gastronomic dimension is not to be missed: local restaurateurs offer traditional dishes and specialties from the Ossola and Walser traditions, to be enjoyed while strolling among the stalls. It is the ideal occasion to combine artisanal shopping with the pleasure of good mountain food.
Visiting the market also means discovering Macugnaga, an ancient Walser settlement famous for its stone and wood houses, alpine traditions, and an unparalleled view of the Italian side of Monte Rosa. The event is part of the village's winter calendar, among the initiatives linked to Carnival, and represents an excellent excuse to spend a day immersed in culture, nature, and craftsmanship in the heart of the Piedmontese Alps.
