About Carnevallo

Carnevallo is the Carnival of Bagnacavallo, in the province of Ravenna: a popular festival that every year, on the first Sunday of March, enlivens Piazza della Libertà with masks, allegorical floats, and costumed groups. Organized by the Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality, the event brings King Carnevallo and his court to the center, with musicians, flag-wavers, children's games, face painting, stalls, and food trucks. A free and colorful afternoon that attracts over a thousand people each year to the heart of the town in Bassa Romagna.

The Carnevallo, Bagnacavallo's Carnival

Carnevallo is the grand Carnival celebration of Bagnacavallo, a town in Bassa Romagna in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Every year, on the first Sunday of March, the historic center fills with colors, confetti, and masks: Piazza della Libertà becomes the realm of King Carnevallo, a jester sovereign who welcomes his court and judges the costumed groups who come to pay homage to him.

A Square Celebration for the Whole Community

The afternoon begins with the arrival of the king and his procession, accompanied by musicians and flag-wavers who kick off the festivities. The costumed groups, often made up of young people and families from the area, parade and present themselves before King Carnevallo, who awards the most original and creative entries. It is a participatory tradition, built from the ground up, where the citizens themselves are the true protagonists of the celebration.

Entertainment, Games, and Taste

During the event, the square transforms into a large space for families. The program includes:

  • Entertainment and games for children;
  • Face painting and themed workshops;
  • Dancing and live musical entertainment;
  • Stalls selling sweets and toys;
  • Food trucks and gastronomic stands with Carnival specialties.

Organization and Local Spirit

Carnevallo is promoted and organized by the Pro Loco of Bagnacavallo with the patronage of the Municipality, in collaboration with local volunteer and trade associations, and with the support of numerous local economic entities. The event is also designed with sustainability in mind, prioritizing walking and the use of non-polluting means for the parade.

A Carnival Event in Bassa Romagna

More than just a parade, Carnevallo is a moment of shared celebration that renews the bond between Bagnacavallo and its people every year. Part of the rich calendar of Carnivals in Bassa Romagna, it is a perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality and popular traditions of this corner of Emilia-Romagna, amidst art, gastronomy, and the infectious joy of masks.
