The Carnival of Bagnacavallo in Piazza della Libertà
Carnevallo is the grand Carnival celebration of Bagnacavallo, a town in Bassa Romagna in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Every year, on the first Sunday of March, the historic center fills with colors, confetti, and masks: Piazza della Libertà becomes the realm of King Carnevallo, a jester sovereign who welcomes his court and judges the costumed groups who come to pay homage to him.
The afternoon begins with the arrival of the king and his procession, accompanied by musicians and flag-wavers who kick off the festivities. The costumed groups, often made up of young people and families from the area, parade and present themselves before King Carnevallo, who awards the most original and creative entries. It is a participatory tradition, built from the ground up, where the citizens themselves are the true protagonists of the celebration.
During the event, the square transforms into a large space for families. The program includes:
Carnevallo is promoted and organized by the Pro Loco of Bagnacavallo with the patronage of the Municipality, in collaboration with local volunteer and trade associations, and with the support of numerous local economic entities. More than just a parade, Carnevallo is a moment of shared celebration that renews the bond between Bagnacavallo and its people every year. Part of the rich calendar of Carnivals in Bassa Romagna, it is a perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality and popular traditions of this corner of Emilia-Romagna, amidst art, gastronomy, and the infectious joy of masks.

Throughout the afternoon, there were animations, games, face painting, dancing, and musical entertainment by the group Milleluci, alongside stalls and food trucks.
