In the heart of the village of Arsoli, in the province of Rome at the gateway to the Aniene Valley, the Carnevale d'Amore is one of the most anticipated winter events. Every February, the squares and streets of the historic center fill with color, confetti, and masks for two days of festivities organized by the Pro Loco of Arsoli, the association that has been preserving and promoting local traditions since 1961.

A celebration rooted in local tradition

The Arsoli Carnival follows time-honored rituals: a mask parade winds through the village, while in the evening, a dance party turns the main square into a massive dance floor for all ages. There is no shortage of music, games, and entertainment designed for families and children, fostering the spirit of shared joy that has always been the hallmark of this community.

Carnival treats

True to the best Lazio traditions, the Carnevale d'Amore is also a feast for the palate. In homes and at local stalls, people prepare traditional seasonal sweets: castagnole, crispy frappe, and fried ciammellette, served with a glass of local wine. The roots of the Carnival in the Aniene Valley

The festival traces its roots back to the ancient mascherate (masquerades) of the middle Aniene Valley, when Carnival served as a time for social inversion and collective release for peasant communities. In Arsoli, as in other towns in the valley, tradition involved satirical scenes and folk rituals marking the approach of Lent. Today, the Carnevale d'Amore renews that spirit in a joyful and family-friendly way.
