The contemporary art week spread across the hills of Carmignano
CARMI.CO – Carmignano Contemporary is the new contemporary art week animating the municipality of Carmignano, in the Province of Prato, in the heart of Tuscany. Promoted by the Tempo Uguale Arte ETS Cultural Association with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Carmignano, the event proposes a model of widespread art that transcends the separation between institutions and the territory, between historical heritage and contemporary research.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Martina Fontana and Simone Sensi. For ten days, the village, wineries, museums, and public spaces of Carmignano become interconnected cultural hubs, crossed by artworks, performances, and encounters.
The core of the program consists of five exhibitions hosted in symbolic locations of the area:
One of the most original features of CARMI.CO is the five artist residencies hosted in the agricultural and wine estates of Carmignano. The artists—including Max Magaldi, Graziano Riccelli, Vittorio Cavallini, Gola Hundun, and Ronaldo Fiesoli—live and work in close contact with the production sites, transforming them into spaces of research and creation, often accompanied by tastings at the estates.
The program is completed by two talks, two workshops, and three studio visits in the artists' ateliers, as well as Art & Trek routes that intertwine art, landscape, and Etruscan heritage along the Via Medicea. Partners include the Centro Pecci, Lottozero, Villa Rospigliosi, the Soffici Museum, the Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano, the Straw Museum of Signa, and the Quinto Martini House Studio.
Famous for its DOCG wine and a hilly landscape dotted with Medici villas and Etruscan sites, Carmignano offers the ideal setting for a festival that weaves together contemporary art, food and wine, and heritage. CARMI.CO positions itself as a new landmark in the Tuscan cultural landscape, capable of activating the entire territory of the Province of Prato.
The first edition of CARMI.CO transformed Carmignano and the surrounding area into a large widespread museum, with a dense program of inaugurations, performances, and meetings between May 15 and 24, 2026.
The five main exhibitions involved the Spazio Moretti, the Educational Center and Archaeological Museum of Artimino, the Bacchereto Majolica Museum, and the Rocca di Carmignano, while the artist residencies animated the local wine estates.
