A neighborhood festival featuring traditional dishes and folk music in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella
In mid-August, when the village of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella fills with those returning home for the holidays, the Capo la Corte district opens its streets and courtyards for a festive evening. Capo la Corte in Festa is a food, wine, and music event organized by the Pro Loco of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella: a journey of stalls, open-air tables, and folk music that winds through the neighborhood, celebrating its unique identity. It is not a massive festival, and that is precisely its charm: here, the celebration is created by the residents themselves, both in the kitchen and on the streets.
The format is that of a food and wine trail: visitors stroll from station to station, sampling the peasant cuisine of the Alburni mountains and the Cilento hinterland. In the most recent edition, the Pro Loco offered a simple yet generous menu that perfectly captures the gastronomy of this part of Campania:
All of this takes place in a setting where food is more than just sustenance: it is the way a community of a few hundred residents gathers, welcomes visitors, and showcases its heritage.
Alongside the culinary experience, the evening is brought to life by folk music, which in the Alburni region and throughout the South remains a living language rather than a museum piece. This theme runs through the entire summer in the village: the municipal calendar dedicates ample space to traditional Southern repertoires, with major events such as the Fasanella Fest, which in 2026 features I Cantori di Carpino, Tarantula Garganica, and Enzo Avitabile with the Bottari di Portico. Capo la Corte in Festa is its intimate, neighborhood version: no monumental stages, just music played right outside your window.
The 2026 edition is part of the «Abitare l'Estate 2026» festival presented by the Municipality of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella, in the province of Salerno, Campania. This program, developed with local associations and presented by Mayor Bruno Tierno, is intended as an exercise in community identity rather than just a calendar of events. During the same weeks, the village also hosts Caseus, a day dedicated to local cheeses and dairy production, and the National Day of the Sacred Sword of the Archangel at the end of the month: those visiting for Capo la Corte in Festa can easily plan a multi-day stay.
Sant'Angelo a Fasanella sits at an altitude of 520 meters at the foot of the Alburni massif, within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Its most famous monument is the Cave of San Michele Arcangelo, a medieval rock-hewn church that has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. On the plateau above lies the Antece, a rock sculpture depicting a warrior, one of the most unique prehistoric findings in Southern Italy. The Baronial Castle, the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Convent of San Francesco, and the Auso Waterfalls just outside the town complete the picture.
Capo la Corte in Festa is the perfect opportunity for those seeking an unfiltered look at Italy's historic villages: a summer evening, a neighborhood celebration, authentic food, and live music, all just steps away from world-class natural and archaeological heritage. Those already visiting the Cilento coast in summer will find here the other face of the Salerno province: a mountainous, cooler, and less crowded side.
Join us on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 8:00 PM in the Capo la Corte district, Sant'Angelo a Fasanella, in the province of Salerno. The event, organized by the Pro Loco, features a tasting trail through the neighborhood streets, with traditional Alburni peasant dishes and live folk music.
The evening is part of the «Abitare l'Estate 2026» program presented by the Municipality, which also includes the Feast of the Madonna della Montagna (August 9), the Junior Phasis Cup tournament and the Carmine Verrone Memorial (August 12), «Tango tra gli Alburni» (August 14), the Caseus dairy festival (August 18), the Fasanella Fest from August 20 to 22, and the National Day of the Sacred Sword of the Archangel (August 29).
Details of the menu and the list of musical groups for the evening have not yet been released: information is usually published in the days immediately preceding the event by the Pro Loco and the Municipality.
The detailed program (full menu and musical acts) has not yet been published by the organizers. This page will be updated as soon as the Pro Loco or the Municipality releases the final poster.
Sant'Angelo a Fasanella can be reached by car from the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, taking the exit for the Alburni area and following the provincial roads up to the village (520 m a.s.l.). The nearest train stations and airports are in the Salerno and Naples areas; a car is essential for exploring the hinterland.
The festival is held in the Capo la Corte district, within the town center. It is advisable to park in the designated areas on the outskirts of the village and walk to the district, as the inner streets are narrow and partially occupied by the festival stalls.
