About Capo di Leuca Festival

The Capo di Leuca Festival is an itinerant international chamber music event that brings summer to life across sixteen municipalities in lower Salento, including Corsano, home to the organizing association Eleusi APS. Directed by Corsano-born pianist Alessandro Licchetta, the festival features dozens of Italian and international musicians performing in churches, castles, squares, and historic sites throughout the Capo di Leuca region, with free admission to all chamber, classical, and operatic concerts.

A widespread festival in the heart of Capo di Leuca

The Capo di Leuca Festival - International Chamber Music Review is an itinerant musical event held during the summer, typically between July and September, spanning sixteen municipalities in lower Salento, at the southern tip of Apulia. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Corsano, in the Province of Lecce, the hometown of the artistic director and base of the promoting association Eleusi APS.

The festival transforms the Capo di Leuca territory into a vast, open-air stage: concerts are held in churches, chapels, castles, squares, and historic sites across various towns, showcasing the artistic and landscape heritage of Salento while bringing world-class chamber music to smaller communities.

Artistic direction and format

The festival is led by the young pianist Alessandro Licchetta, a native of Corsano, who has developed it into an event of international stature. Each edition brings together dozens of artists from around the world—past years have featured musicians from the United States, New Zealand, Spain, Austria, Germany, England, Romania, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and other countries—for a series of itinerant chamber, classical, and operatic concerts.

Alongside evening performances, the festival dedicates significant space to the training of young instrumentalists through masterclasses led by internationally acclaimed teachers and performers, fostering a cross-generational dialogue that engages both residents and tourists.

The sixteen participating municipalities

The itinerant nature is a hallmark of the festival, which over the years has visited towns such as Alessano, Andrano, Castrignano del Capo, Corsano, Diso, Gagliano del Capo, Matino, Morciano di Leuca, Poggiardo, Presicce-Acquarica, Salve, Specchia, Taurisano, Taviano, Tricase, and Ugento. In Corsano, concerts have found a home in evocative settings like the Chapel of Santa Maura.

Support and partnerships

The event is promoted by Eleusi APS with the support of the Apulia Regional Council and the Province of Lecce, and in collaboration with local institutions such as the "T. Schipa" Conservatory of Lecce and the Basilica Sanctuary of Santa Maria De Finibus Terrae in Leuca. Concerts and masterclasses for young musicians are free of charge.

With its widespread and international format, the Capo di Leuca Festival stands as one of the most distinctive summer musical events in Salento, successfully blending high-quality chamber music with the discovery of the villages and treasures of the Capo di Leuca area.
