About Cannobiese Carnival

The Cannobio Carnival, also known as the Cannobiese Carnival, is one of the most beloved festivals on the Piedmontese side of Lake Maggiore. Following the Ambrosian rite, it is celebrated later than the traditional carnival, bringing the village of Cannobio, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, to life for three days with parades of allegorical floats, masked groups, brass bands, and live music nights at the Palacarnevale. Between tripe, polenta, and risotto served at the Oratory, it is a true community celebration.

The Cannobiese Carnival, a village festival on Lake Maggiore

Every winter, the village of Cannobio, overlooking the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, transforms into a riot of colors, confetti, and masks. The Cannobio Carnival (Cannobiese Carnival) is a popular event deeply rooted in tradition, organized by the Cannobio Carnival Association with the support of the Municipality of Cannobio.

An Ambrosian rite carnival

A unique feature of this festival is that it follows the Ambrosian rite: for this reason, the Cannobiese carnival is celebrated a few days later than the Roman carnival, extending the mask season on the lake. It is a trait that links Cannobio to the Lombard and Milanese tradition, despite being located in Piedmontese territory.

Three days of festivities for everyone

The program is spread over three days packed with events designed for families, children, and music lovers:

  • The children's parade along the village streets, featuring baby dance and magic shows at the Palacarnevale.
  • Musical evenings at the Palacarnevale, with ballroom orchestras, tribute bands, and DJ sets until late at night.
  • The grand parade of allegorical floats, judged by a jury based on satire, allegory, and technical quality, accompanied by Guggen Musik bands.

Traditional flavors

There is no Cannobiese festival without the traditional dishes served at the Oratorio Don Silvio Gallotti: tripe on Thursday, polenta and tapelucco on Friday, and risotto with luganiga sausage on Saturday. These are moments of conviviality that bring the entire Cannobio community together around great local cuisine.

A perfect time to discover Cannobio

Attending the carnival is also the perfect opportunity to visit one of the most charming villages on Lake Maggiore, with its lakefront, medieval historic center, and the authentic atmosphere of a town that embraces the festival with great enthusiasm. An unmissable stop for those seeking the living traditions of the Piedmontese lakes.
