The artistic flower festival of the Monti Dauni village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
There is one spring day when the main street of Candela—a small town in the Province of Foggia nestled in the Monti Dauni mountains—stops being a road and becomes a canvas. This is the day of Candela in Fiore, the artistic flower festival that, since 2013, has drawn thousands of visitors and dozens of volunteers armed with petals, flowers, and plenty of patience to this Apulian village. The result is a long floral carpet winding through the historic center, assembled frame by frame over the course of a night and a full day of collective work.
The art of the infiorata (floral carpet) has roots dating back to the 17th century and is historically linked to the feast of Corpus Domini, when the faithful would decorate the streets with petals for the passing procession. In Candela, this tradition has been rediscovered and transformed into a cultural event that transcends its religious origins: a community gathering that showcases one of the most charming villages in the Daunian sub-Apennines, located on the border between Puglia, Basilicata, and Campania. The floral works are created by the Master floral artists of Infioritalia, the Italian association for artistic floral carpets, supported by volunteers from the Pro Loco, the ASP Candela Promozione, local schools, and citizens of all ages.
Candela in Fiore is not limited to its petal carpets. Every year, a program of side events animates the squares and historic palaces of the center: floral arrangement workshops, the Flower Cycle Ride through the Monti Dauni countryside, the Animated Village traveling theater route, the Flower Gathering featuring vintage cars and vehicles, exhibitions in noble palaces, and stalls offering street food and local products. It is a way to discover not only the floral masterpieces but also the architectural heritage and authentic life of this corner of Puglia.
Participation is the heart of the event: children, teenagers, and adults are invited to get their hands into the petals and contribute to the creation of the floral pictures. It is precisely this open and collective spirit—a "great festival where everyone can participate," as the organizers note—that makes Candela in Fiore a beloved event far beyond the town's borders, and a staple in the calendar of Southern Italy's flower festivals.
The 2026 edition of Candela in Fiore is eagerly awaited in the Monti Dauni village, in the Province of Foggia, following twelve successful editions since 2013 that have transformed the historic center into a carpet of petals. At the moment, the official 2026 dates have not yet been communicated by the organizers: the event usually takes place in spring. The detailed program—including the floral carpet, workshops, entertainment, and side activities—will be published on the official channels of the Pro Loco of Candela closer to the event.
