Allegorical floats and masks through the districts of Campoli Appennino
In the heart of the Ciociaria region, at the foot of the Apennines, the Campoli Carnival is one of the most cherished annual events for the community of Campoli Appennino, a small town in the province of Frosinone, in southern Lazio. It is an authentic village festival, built year after year by the residents themselves, transforming the village streets into a cheerful procession of colors, music, and masks.
From the early hours of the morning, the Villa Comunale becomes the meeting point: this is where the allegorical floats, masked groups, and many children in costume gather, ready to enjoy a day of celebration. The parade starts here, winding through the Greci, Martini, and Pantanella districts, bringing entertainment and joy even to the most rural areas of the territory.
The Campoli Carnival is not a show for tourists, but a true expression of popular tradition: local families, young people, and associations build the floats, sew the costumes, and organize the festivities. This is precisely why it manages to involve not only the locals but also visitors from neighboring towns every year, who come to the village to enjoy a day of fun and conviviality.
Nestled in a basin surrounded by mountains and forests, Campoli Appennino is known as the "city of the bear and the truffle," a testament to its deep connection with nature and the gastronomic traditions of its territory. The Carnival represents the winter gathering moment for this community, an opportunity to rediscover the historic center, the districts, and the genuine hospitality of inland Lazio, far from the major tourist circuits and close to the authentic soul of the Ciociaria.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, Campoli Appennino experienced its Carnival day. From the early hours of the morning, the Villa Comunale was the meeting point for allegorical floats, masked groups, and many children, before the start of the parade towards the town's districts.
Campoli Appennino is located in the province of Frosinone, in southern Lazio. By car, it can be reached from the A1 motorway (Sora or Frosinone exit) by continuing along the provincial roads towards the Val di Comino. The nearest train station is Sora, on the Avezzano-Roccasecca line.
The festival takes place during the Carnival period in February; the main parade starts from the Villa Comunale in the morning.
An outdoor event suitable for families: comfortable and warm clothing is recommended. Free admission. For updated times and programs, it is best to check the channels of the Municipality of Campoli Appennino and local associations.
