The parade of allegorical floats that has colored the town's streets for over fifty years
The Campogalliano Carnival is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the winter calendar in the province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. For over fifty years, on a Sunday in February or March, the historic center of this town in the lower Modena area fills with confetti, masks, and allegorical floats handmade by local groups and associations. The event is organized by the Circolo ANSPI Oratorio Sassola together with the Gruppo Amici del Carnevale, with the patronage of the municipal administration.
What makes this Carnival special is its profoundly popular and inclusive spirit: it's not just a parade to watch from the sidewalk, but a procession that everyone can join. Behind the floats, anyone who wishes can walk along, in costume or disguise, transforming the entire town into one big party. For children, there are games, gadgets, and entertainment; for adults, a corner dedicated to young people with music and a DJ set curated by the Rooster Club kids.
The floats, carefully built in the preceding months, tackle different themes each year inspired by cinema, cartoons, and popular imagination. The procession starts from Via Roma and crosses the heart of Campogalliano, passing through Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Via Marconi, Piazza Pace, and Via Ronzoni, before returning to the starting point.
At the end of the day, the awards for the most original individual mask and the best walking group are presented, followed by the drawing of prizes in the traditional lottery. Along the route, there are refreshment stands with sweet and savory products, accompanying the public throughout the afternoon.
The Campogalliano Carnival is the perfect opportunity to discover the authentic festive atmosphere of a small Emilian town, where the Carnival tradition is maintained by volunteers and enjoyed by entire generations. A free event, suitable for families, that tells the identity of a community capable of renewing its enthusiasm every year.
The 57th edition of the Campogalliano Carnival was held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, dedicated to the theme "Princesses and Superheroes". The allegorical floats were decorated inspired by Barbie, Superheroes, La Casa de Papel, Mariachi, and the Princess Castle, offering the public a colorful and engaging parade.
The festival confirmed its tried-and-tested formula: music, games for everyone, refreshments with sweet and savory products, and the invitation to join the walking procession behind the floats. An event curated by Circolo ANSPI Oratorio Sassola and Gruppo Amici del Carnevale.
Theme of the edition: Princesses and Superheroes. Floats themed around Barbie, Superheroes, La Casa de Papel, Mariachi, and Princess Castle.
