A sound walk through the squares and alleys of the historic center
There is an event that, for almost thirty years, has closed the summer season in Cagli, an elegant town in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. It is Cagli delle Musiche, an event created in 1996 by the Pro Loco of Cagli that has made music the common thread of an evening unlike any other. No single stage and no audience seating: here the public walks, lets themselves be guided by the sounds, and discovers, corner after corner, the most evocative side of the village.
The idea is both simple and original. For one night, the historic center becomes a large open-air stage, where several musical groups perform simultaneously in different parts of the city. You move from one square to another, from a courtyard to an alley, and at each stop, the genre changes: classical, folk, rock, baroque, jazz, Celtic music, up to the exhilarating Salento pizzica. It is this mixture of sounds, chasing each other through the streets, that creates the unique atmosphere of the evening.
The geography of the event is that of the Cagli village itself. Among the spaces that have hosted artists over the years are the Salone degli Stemmi, where the evening often begins, and then Piazza del Teatro, Piazza San Francesco, the Courtyard of Palazzo Mochi-Zamperoli, the Atrium of Palazzo Tiranni, the Courtyard of the Palazzo Comunale, and Piazzetta Siccardi. The grand finale is reserved for Piazza Matteotti, the heart of the city, where the concluding concert is held, drawing the public in late at night.
Accompanying the music are also street performers and markets that liven up the streets, making the evening a widespread celebration for all ages. Over the years, the event has also hosted charity stalls, such as that of the non-profit association Sottosopra in support of projects in Malawi, a sign of the link between the event and the local community.
Organized by the Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality of Cagli, the festival has established itself as one of the classics of the Cagli summer. Admission is free and the event is usually scheduled for the third Saturday of August: the ideal opportunity to discover a Marche village of rare beauty by simply letting yourself be guided by the notes.
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Cagli will host the new edition of Cagli delle Musiche, the musical event that enlivens the squares of the historic center and concludes the Cagli summer season. As tradition dictates, the evening offers a sound walk with multiple groups playing simultaneously in different parts of the village, spanning various musical genres, and concluding with the final concert in Piazza Matteotti.
Admission is free. The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including artists and schedules for individual performances, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Cagli in the weeks preceding the event.
