The flower that smells of tradition

The Busalla Rose Festival is one of the most characteristic events in the hinterland of Genoa. It is held in Busalla, a municipality in the Valle Scrivia in the province of Genoa, and is dedicated to the Syrup Rose of Valle Scrivia, a highly fragrant variety linked to a centuries-old peasant tradition and protected as a Slow Food presidium, now a candidate for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

Two days of flowers, flavors, and culture

During the festival weekend, the town fills with colors and scents. Floral exhibitions and rose-based products animate Piazza Macciò, crafts and aromatic plants Largo Italia, typical products Via San Giorgio, while producers and food artisans gather in Piazza Colombo and Piazza Ferralasco. The gastronomic heart is the Festival of Ancient Roses organized by the Pro Loco, with rose-themed menus served under a dedicated structure.

The Villa Borzino rose garden and the race for PGI

Among the innovations of recent editions is the inauguration of the new Villa Borzino rose garden, designed as a permanent space for the valorization of the flower. The festival is also an opportunity to present the dossier, prepared by the Municipality with the Chamber of Commerce and the University of Genoa, necessary for the PGI recognition request for the Syrup Rose.

Busalla, gateway to Valle Scrivia

A historic crossroads between Genoa and Piedmont, Busalla is a lively municipality in the Ligurian hinterland. The Rose Festival, recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026, represents its most important identity event, capable of attracting about twenty thousand visitors each year and telling the public about the culture of the flower and the territory.
