About Bovolone Carnival

From Epiphany to Shrove Tuesday, Bovolone celebrates one of Italy's longest Carnivals. Traditional masks - King Marangon, Queen Scaiarola, their son Truciolo, and Bacchus - lead the parades of papier-mâché floats through the streets of this large town in the Veronese plain. Amidst confetti, streamers, and the scent of Frittola, the local typical dessert, the Bovolone Carnival is a popular festival with ancient roots, animated by the Pro Loco and the entire community.

A Month-Long Carnival

The Bovolone Carnival is one of the most cherished festivals in Bovolone, a town in the Veronese plain in the province of Verona. It is considered one of the longest Carnivals in Italy: the celebrations span from Epiphany to Shrove Tuesday, with a packed schedule of events.

Masks and Floats

The protagonists of the festival are the town's traditional masks: King Marangon, Queen Scaiarola, and their son Truciolo, the Counts Cappello from the San Pierin district, Bacchus from Casella, the Lords of the Frogs from the Caltrane-Canton neighborhood, and the Papà del Gnoco. Parades of papier-mâché floats wind through the town center streets, amidst confetti, streamers, and a float competition.

Tradition and Frittola

The Bovolone carnival tradition dates back to 1874, although a float from that era, preserved at Villa Gagliardi, suggests even older origins. Don't miss the Frittola, the typical dessert of the local Carnival. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Bovolone.

Bovolone Carnival — edition 2026

The 2026 Bovolone Carnival took place from January 7 to February 17 (Shrove Tuesday): over a month of festivities with traditional masks - King Marangon, Queen Scaiarola, Truciolo, Bacchus - parades of papier-mâché floats in the center, confetti, streamers, and Frittola, the local typical dessert.

The 2026 edition of the Bovolone Carnival ran from January 7 to February 17 (Shrove Tuesday), confirming its reputation as one of Italy's longest Carnivals. Traditional masks and papier-mâché floats animated the streets of Bovolone's center, organized by the Pro Loco with the usual float competition and Frittola distribution.

Programme Bovolone Carnival 2026

The Bovolone Carnival is spread over several days between January and February, with the highlight being the parades of papier-mâché floats along the town center streets (usually in the evening, from 7:30 PM). The town's traditional masks are the stars: King Marangon, Queen Scaiarola, and Truciolo, the Counts Cappello, Bacchus, the Lords of the Frogs, and the Papà del Gnoco. Confetti and streamers, a float competition with awards, and Frittola distribution accompany the festivities. The parade schedule is updated on the Pro Loco of Bovolone's channels.
