For an entire month, Duino Aurisina, on the Karst plateau in the province of Trieste, becomes the stage for crimes, investigations, and mysteries… on paper. This is Borgo in Giallo, the event that every June brings the charm of the noir novel, true crime, and crime reporting to the village of San Mauro, with book presentations, author meetings, and in-depth discussions. A young but already beloved festival, organized by the Gruppo Ermada Flavio Vidonis with the support of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region and the Municipality of Duino Aurisina.
Literature, memory, and territory
What makes Borgo in Giallo special is its ability to intertwine the crime genre with the history and identity of the territory. Alongside literary presentations, the event offers guided tours of the Mithraeum of Duino, a suggestive Roman place of worship carved into the rock, and the launch of a podcast dedicated to this corner of the Karst. Literature, journalism, photography, and landscape merge into a unique narrative, where the investigative narrative also becomes a way to discover the hidden treasures of the area.
The Spazio Cultura of Borgo San Mauro
The heart of the event is the Spazio Cultura of Borgo San Mauro, which hosts evening events with authors throughout June, as well as exhibitions and collateral events. The meetings are free and open to everyone, in an informal and intimate atmosphere that allows direct dialogue between writers, journalists, and the public. The tours of the Mithraeum, scheduled every Saturday morning, complete the experience with the "Let's explore the territory – Discover hidden treasures" tour.
A growing festival
Now in its third edition in 2026, Borgo in Giallo has carved out an original niche in the cultural landscape of the Trieste coast, demonstrating how even a small Karst village can become a hub for storytelling and territorial promotion. An ideal event for fans of the genre and for those who want to discover Duino Aurisina in a different light.
Borgo in Giallo — edition 2026
The third edition of Borgo in Giallo animates Duino Aurisina from June 3 to 30, 2026, with evening events at the Spazio Cultura in Borgo San Mauro. The program alternates presentations of crime and noir novels, meetings with authors and journalists, an exhibition dedicated to Ungaretti, and the launch of the podcast "Mitreo e dintorni" (Mithraeum and surroundings), curated by Gruppo Ermada Flavio Vidonis with the support of the FVG Region and the Municipality of Duino Aurisina.
