Street art, music, and theatre in the heart of Valdaso
The Borghi Maestri Festival is the flagship event of the cultural regeneration project of the same name, involving the Municipalities of Petritoli and Monte Vidon Combatte, in the heart of Valdaso, in the province of Fermo. For a few summer days, the historic center of Petritoli, one of the most evocative villages in the Marche, transforms into a widespread stage where street theatre, music, juggling, magic, and circus arts take over squares, alleys, and open spaces.
The program combines puppet shows, clowning, soap bubble performances, juggling, and concerts, spread across the Teatro dell'Iride, Largo Leopardi, Via Tornabuoni, and other squares in the town. The format is that of a village-friendly festival: multiple shows per evening, short walks between venues, and the opportunity to experience the event as a family. The musical part often culminates in a major opening concert, held in the hamlet of Valmir di Petritoli.
The festival was born within the Borghi Maestri project, supported by funding of over two million euros as part of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and Next Generation EU funds, dedicated to the enhancement of small villages and cultural heritage. Petritoli, as the lead municipality, and Monte Vidon Combatte propose a development model that focuses on local traditions, arts, and knowledge, with the aim of improving the quality of life and creating new opportunities, especially for young people.
With its free admission, offerings suitable for both adults and children, and the intimate atmosphere of the Marche village, the Borghi Maestri Festival has become, in just a few editions, an anticipated event of the summer season in the province of Fermo. After the days in Petritoli, the review traditionally continues with other events in Monte Vidon Combatte, confirming the shared vocation of the two villages.
The fourth edition of the Borghi Maestri Festival took place in Petritoli on June 6 and 7, 2026, with the usual free admission. The opening evening featured music by the Marche-based band La Rua in the hamlet of Valmir, while on Sunday the historic center came alive with puppet theatre, juggling, clowning, reggae, and soap bubble workshops. After Petritoli, the review continued in Monte Vidon Combatte the following weekend (June 13-14).
The shows are held in the historic center of Petritoli (Teatro dell'Iride, Largo Leopardi, Via Tornabuoni, and village squares), in the province of Fermo, in the Marche region. The main opening concert is held in the hamlet of Valmir di Petritoli (Piazza I Maggio).
Petritoli can be reached by car from the Pedaso exit of the A14 motorway, driving up the Valdaso; the nearest train station is Pedaso, on the Adriatic line, from which you can continue by car or local transport.
Admission to all shows is free. Food stalls are available in the village during the evenings. Comfortable shoes are recommended for walking through the streets of the historic center.
