About Bonfire Market

Bonfire Market is a handmade craft fair that brings the Sant'Urbano olive grove to life in the heart of Rome's Caffarella Park. Over forty selected exhibitors from across the city showcase illustrations, jewelry, ceramics, clothing, and design objects among ancient olive trees, accompanied by yoga classes, creative workshops, tarot readings, and street food. A free, open-air event that blends small-scale manufacturing, upcycling, and neighborhood life in one of the capital's most beautiful archaeological landscapes.

A craft market in the greenery of Caffarella

The Bonfire Market is one of the most recognizable fixtures of the independent creative scene in Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. The event takes place at the Sant'Urbano Olive Grove, a green space opening up along Vicolo di Sant'Urbano, in the heart of Caffarella Park: a stretch of Roman countryside that has remained intact just minutes from the city walls, surrounded by archaeological ruins and crisscrossed by footpaths, sheep, and historic farmhouses. The market was born from a simple yet coherent idea: to take artisanal work out of trade fair halls and return it to a natural setting, where the pace of the visit is slow and the relationship between producer and buyer becomes direct once again.

Over forty selected exhibitors

The heart of the event is the selection of exhibitors: more than forty businesses from all over Rome, chosen one by one, presenting hundreds of strictly handmade creations. The product range is broad and spans various crafts:

  • Handmade jewelry, from reclaimed sea glass to wax modeling and textile jewelry;
  • Illustration and art prints, with live portraiture and small independent editions;
  • Ceramics and design objects, often one-of-a-kind pieces;
  • Clothing and accessories, including sartorial productions and selected vintage;
  • Bookbinding and paper goods, with hand-stitched notebooks;
  • Reuse and upcycling, from regenerated lamps to pallet wood objects;
  • Herbalism and natural products, including herbal teas, liqueurs, and small plant terrariums.

Many of the stalls are run directly by the makers, which makes the market an opportunity to understand how a piece is created: the techniques, the materials, and the real time required for manual work.

Workshops, wellness, and activities for all ages

Bonfire Market is more than just a market. Each edition offers a schedule of free or low-cost classes and workshops, designed to bring the olive grove to life throughout the day. Recent editions have featured Hatha Yoga sessions in the shade of the trees, self-education meetings using the Feldenkrais method, creative sewing workshops for children, Japanese bookbinding and Furoshiki collage workshops, as well as Candles in the Park, a sensory ritual where you compose your own candle by choosing essences based on your emotions. There is no shortage of astrological tarot readings and artistic face painting, much loved by families from the Appio-Latino neighborhood.

Reuse and community: «I'll give it to you if you come and get it»

Among the most iconic initiatives is «I'll give it to you if you come and get it», an area dedicated to the free exchange of personal items that are still in good condition. Those who want to can bring what they no longer use, and those passing by can take it for free: a small gesture that perfectly captures the spirit of the project, where sustainability is not just a buzzword but a daily practice. It is also the reason why the market has built a loyal community over the years, made up of residents, artisans, families, and regular park-goers.

Street food, music, and evening atmosphere

The gastronomic side is handled by food trucks and small independent brands: recent editions have featured Vita Vegan, with entirely plant-based street food and gluten-free options, Mozao with tigelle and gnocco fritto, and a beer and cocktail stall. When the event extends into the late afternoon, the olive grove lights up and the market takes on a more convivial character, with the Roman countryside providing a backdrop for the sunset: this is arguably when the Bonfire Market is at its best.

A recurring format throughout the year

The project does not have a single fixed date: it repeats several times a year, following the seasons and the light. After initial experiences hosted at the Cartiera Latina and the Casale dei Cedrati, the market found its natural home in the Sant'Urbano Olive Grove, with spring, summer, and early autumn appointments. Admission is always free, and access is on foot along the park paths, in a setting that invites you to combine your market visit with a walk through the Caffarella Valley, the Nymphaeum of Egeria, and the Church of Sant'Urbano.

Bonfire Market — edition 2026

In 2026, the Bonfire Market doubled up: two weekends at the Sant'Urbano Olive Grove in Caffarella Park, May 23-24 in a daytime version and June 6-7 in an afternoon and evening version. Over forty selected exhibitors from across Rome, creative workshops, yoga, tarot readings, free object exchange, and street food, always with free admission under the olive trees of the Roman countryside.

Two appointments in the Roman spring

The 2026 edition of the Bonfire Market was split into two distinct weekends at the Sant'Urbano Olive Grove, in the heart of Caffarella Park in Rome. The first, Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24 from 10 am to 8 pm, proposed a daytime formula designed for families, with the market open all day among the olive trees. The second, Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 from 3:30 pm to 11 pm, moved the appointment to the afternoon and evening, when the warm light and later the lanterns completely change the atmosphere of the place.

Exhibitors and crafts

Both weekends featured over 40 selected exhibitors from across the capital, with hundreds of strictly handmade creations: illustrations, jewelry, accessories, clothing, design objects, and independent productions. Among the entities present in May were Regnum Naturae with saffron herbal teas and liqueurs, Vetri di Mare with jewelry made from sea glass, Terramind with its plant terrariums, Le Orme di Ilaria, and Closet di Monique with vintage clothing. In June, they were joined by Junk with regenerated vintage lamps, Rompipallet Roma with reclaimed wood objects, Archincielo with handmade notebooks and bookbinding, LightEye Jewelry, and Lavì Jewelry.

Workshops and wellness

The activity program accompanied both dates. May saw a Hatha Yoga class, a self-education session with the Feldenkrais method, a creative sewing workshop for children, a Furoshiki workshop with collage self-portraiture, astrological tarot readings, and face painting. In June, the schedule offered a Japanese bookbinding workshop with Archincielo, a new Hatha Yoga session, face painting for children, astrological tarot readings with Susy Benvenuto, and Candles in the Park, the sensory ritual by Mushcandel dedicated to creating your own personalized candle by choosing essences based on your emotions.

Reuse and refreshments

The «I'll give it to you if you come and get it» area, dedicated to the free exchange of personal items in good condition, was confirmed for both dates. On the gastronomic front, May featured the Mozao food truck with tigelle and gnocco fritto, while June featured Vita Vegan with entirely plant-based street food and Radici Cocktails & Beer for beverages.
