The Flower Festival that turns the heart of Bolzano into a spring garden
Bolzano in Fiore, also known as the Flower Festival (or Kunstgarten Bozen in German), is one of the most beloved spring events in the capital of South Tyrol. Every year, between late April and May 1st, Piazza Walther and the streets of Bolzano's historic center transform into a vast open-air garden, where local florists and nurserymen showcase floral arrangements, green oases, and striking artistic installations.
The charm of Bolzano in Fiore lies in its blend of traditional horticulture and artistic expression. Piazza Walther, the beating heart of the event, fills with colors and fragrances thanks to the displays created by the city's gardeners, while the path extends along the Viale della Stazione, bustling with artisans and a rich program of initiatives. Visitors can enjoy creative workshops, painting spaces, face-painting areas for children, and guided botanical tours.
The festival is punctuated by a packed musical schedule: school choirs, brass ensembles, town bands, and live music acts take turns on the stages set up in the squares. The days are animated by stilt-walker parades and street performers, traditional dance exhibitions, acrobatic shows, and entertainment designed for children and families. The characteristic sound of terracotta bells marks the inauguration, a ritual repeated with every edition.
Now in its over 130th edition, Bolzano in Fiore has become a defining event for the Municipality of Bolzano and the entire Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Organized by the Bolzano Tourist Board, the festival attracts both residents and tourists who take advantage of the May 1st long weekend to stroll among the flowers, enjoy live music, and experience the bilingual, Central European atmosphere that characterizes the South Tyrolean capital.
The 136th edition of Bolzano in Fiore was held on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1, 2026, with Piazza Walther taking center stage and a new extension along the Viale della Stazione. From the early morning, gardeners and stands welcomed visitors, while at 11:00 AM the inauguration took place with speeches by authorities, a school choir performance, and the characteristic sound of terracotta bells.
At noon, the center was animated by a parade of stilt-walkers and street performers, followed in the afternoon by concerts, children's shows, and guided botanical tours. On May 1st, the day continued with morning concerts, traditional dances in Piazza Walther, acrobatic performances, and entertainment throughout the city.
The 2026 edition, organized by the Bolzano Tourist Board, confirmed the event as one of the key spring highlights of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
Piazza Walther is located in the heart of Bolzano's historic center, just a short walk from the train station. By train: Bolzano station is accessible via the main Brenner lines (Verona–Innsbruck). By car: take the Bolzano Sud or Bolzano Nord motorway exit (A22 Brenner Motorway), with parking available in the city center.
The event is free to attend and takes place in the public spaces of the city center (Piazza Walther and Viale della Stazione), generally from morning until evening. Using public transport is recommended due to traffic restrictions in the historic center during the event.
