About Bodies in Light
Dance Meets the Stone of Matera
Bodies in Light is a contemporary dance performance created in Matera by the Oltredanza Company, with choreography by Rossella Iacovone and Marco Magrino. The project explores the dialogue between body and space, between stone, darkness, and light: an artistic vision conceived in the underground environments of the Sassi Foundation during winter and developed as a project rooted in the urban spaces and historical memory of the city.
A Community Project
The performance intertwines choreographic research with live music by percussionist Tommaso Di Marzio, who composed original pieces performed on stage. The company's dancers interpret a journey of gesture, shadow, and matter. The project connects with local dance realities in Matera, including D-HUB Studios, and finds a special moment during the International Dance Day.

Bodies in Light — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Bodies in Light saw its premiere on April 11, 2026, at the headquarters of the Oltredanza Company, at Via delle Fiere 1 in Matera. The performance, with choreography by Rossella Iacovone and Marco Magrino and live music by percussionist Tommaso Di Marzio, received an excellent audience reception.
The schedule included a repeat performance on April 29 for International Dance Day, accompanied by free workshops for all ages, and another event on May 9, 2026.
