The classical music festival of Muggia in the spirit of Beethoven, featuring concerts, exhibitions, and workshops.
The BeethovenFest is the classical music festival that has chosen Muggia as its home, dedicated to the great composer from Bonn. The event originates around the Casa Museo Biblioteca Beethoveniana (Beethoveniana House Museum and Library), an extraordinary collection housing over 11,500 artistic, historical, and musical testimonies related to Beethoven. It is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Muggia and the Società dei Concerti di Trieste, with artistic direction by Marco Seco.
The program offers 27 events spread over two weeks in May, blending music, art, history, and education. Alongside concerts, there are exhibitions, conferences, workshops for children, and music therapy sessions, fostering a constant dialogue between Beethoven's legacy and the city. Among the highlights of previous editions are Canadian pianist Louis Lortie and the Goldberg Quartet, alongside resident artists and local ensembles.
The festival unfolds in Muggia's most beautiful locations: the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Verdi, the Ugo Carà Museum of Modern Art, the Casa Museo Biblioteca Beethoveniana, the evocative Archaeological Park of Muggia Vecchia, as well as churches and squares in the center, such as Piazza Marconi. This itinerary uses music as an opportunity to discover Muggia's Venetian and Mediterranean identity, the only strip of Istria remaining Italian.
The 2nd edition of BeethovenFest returns to Muggia from May 15 to May 31, 2026, with 27 events blending music, art, history, and education. Concerts, exhibitions, conferences, workshops for children, and music therapy sessions will animate the town's venues, from the Verdi Theatre to the Ugo Carà Museum, from the Casa Museo Biblioteca Beethoveniana to the Archaeological Park of Muggia Vecchia. Among the artists are pianist Louis Lortie and the Goldberg Quartet, under the artistic direction of Marco Seco.
