The traditional carnival of the Piné Plateau, featuring allegorical floats and village rituals
The Bedolero Carnival is the signature carnival event of the Municipality of Bedollo, located on the Piné Plateau in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. For over twenty years, the festival has marked the carnival season with a series of events involving the entire community and its hamlets: Centrale, Brusago, Piazze, Regnana, and other local areas. The highlight is the grand Shrove Sunday parade, but the calendar spans several days, ranging from the senior citizens' "Grostolada" to the final ritual on Shrove Tuesday.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats and masked groups, which takes place on carnival Sunday in the center of Centrale di Bedollo, near the multipurpose center. Floats and masks arrive from the various hamlets of Bedollo and neighboring Baselga di Piné, creating a colorful and festive procession that winds through the village before a large audience. Participation is open and free of charge.
After the parade, the party continues with a convivial gathering: a plate of pasta with meat sauce is served for a voluntary donation, and the bar remains open all afternoon. It is the perfect opportunity for volunteers, families, and masked groups to gather in the square, enjoying the festive atmosphere typical of Trentino village carnivals.
The Bedolero Carnival is an expression of the popular culture of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Piné Plateau, a mountain region renowned for its lakes and village traditions. Organized through the dedication of local volunteers and associations, the event blends a love for celebration, good food, and the rituals that have accompanied carnival in this part of Trentino for generations.
The 2026 Bedolero Carnival brought the Municipality of Bedollo to life with its traditional calendar of events. On Sunday, February 8, in the Foyer of the Centrale Theater, the Bedollo Senior Citizens' Club hosted the Grostolada, featuring grostoli, sweets, and accordion music.
The highlight was the 26th parade on Sunday, February 15 (2:30 PM - 6:00 PM): on a sunny but windy day, allegorical floats and masked groups paraded through the center of Centrale di Bedollo before a large crowd, followed by catering services with pasta and meat sauce (voluntary donation) and an open bar all afternoon.
On Tuesday, February 17, the last day of carnival, the "Marti Gras coi Ciavati" gastronomic tour was held in Brusago, with various tasting stops organized by volunteer groups and the conclusion with the "burning of the old woman" ritual.
Bedollo is located on the Piné Plateau, in the province of Trento. By car, it can be reached from Trento by heading up towards the Piné Plateau (about 30 minutes); the main parade takes place in Centrale di Bedollo, at the multipurpose center.
The carnival is concentrated in February: the float parade on Shrove Sunday, the Grostolada in the preceding days, and the gastronomic tours on Shrove Tuesday.
Admission is free. Pasta with meat sauce is available for a voluntary donation; bar service is paid.
