About Bedolero Carnival

The Bedolero Carnival is the annual celebration held in the municipality of Bedollo, on the Piné Plateau in Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year, on Shrove Sunday, colorful floats and masked groups parade through the center of Centrale di Bedollo before a large crowd. The parade is followed by a convivial gathering featuring pasta with meat sauce (offered for a voluntary donation) and an open bar throughout the afternoon. The festivities involve all the local hamlets and conclude on Shrove Tuesday with gastronomic tours and the traditional "burning of the old woman" ritual.

The Carnival of the Municipality of Bedollo

The Bedolero Carnival is the signature carnival event of the Municipality of Bedollo, located on the Piné Plateau in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. For over twenty years, the festival has marked the carnival season with a series of events involving the entire community and its hamlets: Centrale, Brusago, Piazze, Regnana, and other local areas. The highlight is the grand Shrove Sunday parade, but the calendar spans several days, ranging from the senior citizens' "Grostolada" to the final ritual on Shrove Tuesday.

The Allegorical Float Parade

The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats and masked groups, which takes place on carnival Sunday in the center of Centrale di Bedollo, near the multipurpose center. Floats and masks arrive from the various hamlets of Bedollo and neighboring Baselga di Piné, creating a colorful and festive procession that winds through the village before a large audience. Participation is open and free of charge.

A Convivial Gathering

After the parade, the party continues with a convivial gathering: a plate of pasta with meat sauce is served for a voluntary donation, and the bar remains open all afternoon. It is the perfect opportunity for volunteers, families, and masked groups to gather in the square, enjoying the festive atmosphere typical of Trentino village carnivals.

Other Carnival Events

  • Senior Citizens' Grostolada: Held in the Foyer of the Centrale Theater, this event features tastings of grostoli—the typical fried pastries of the Trentino carnival—accompanied by accordion music and dancing.
  • Shrove Tuesday in the Hamlets: The final day of carnival is dedicated to itinerant gastronomic tours through the hamlets (such as the "coi Ciavati" event in Brusago), with various stops to taste local delicacies prepared by volunteer groups.
  • "Brusar la vecia": The concluding ritual involving the burning of a puppet, symbolically marking the end of carnival and the beginning of Lent.

A Tradition of the Piné Plateau

The Bedolero Carnival is an expression of the popular culture of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Piné Plateau, a mountain region renowned for its lakes and village traditions. Organized through the dedication of local volunteers and associations, the event blends a love for celebration, good food, and the rituals that have accompanied carnival in this part of Trentino for generations.

Bedolero Carnival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Bedolero Carnival took place in February with several events: the Senior Citizens' Grostolada on Sunday, February 8, the 26th allegorical float parade on Sunday, February 15 in Centrale di Bedollo, and the Shrove Tuesday gastronomic tours on February 17 in the hamlets.

The 2026 Bedolero Carnival brought the Municipality of Bedollo to life with its traditional calendar of events. On Sunday, February 8, in the Foyer of the Centrale Theater, the Bedollo Senior Citizens' Club hosted the Grostolada, featuring grostoli, sweets, and accordion music.

The highlight was the 26th parade on Sunday, February 15 (2:30 PM - 6:00 PM): on a sunny but windy day, allegorical floats and masked groups paraded through the center of Centrale di Bedollo before a large crowd, followed by catering services with pasta and meat sauce (voluntary donation) and an open bar all afternoon.

On Tuesday, February 17, the last day of carnival, the "Marti Gras coi Ciavati" gastronomic tour was held in Brusago, with various tasting stops organized by volunteer groups and the conclusion with the "burning of the old woman" ritual.
