A festival in dialogue with the landscape

BarsentoArte is one of the most original cultural festivals of the summer in Noci, a town in the Murgia area of the province of Bari, in the heart of the Apulian trulli region. Conceived and organized by the Luminares Cultural Association, the event brings music, art, theater, and walking tours every August to the setting of the Church of Santa Maria di Barsento, located just outside the town in the open countryside. Here, the audience does not just attend a concert or a show: they enter into a dialogue with the location, the silence of the Murgia countryside, and one of the oldest examples of sacred architecture in Puglia.

The absolute heart of the festival is the Church of Santa Maria di Barsento, considered one of the oldest examples of medieval sacred architecture in Puglia. Immersed in the greenery of the Murgia, among dry-stone walls and olive groves, the church offers a natural and historical setting of rare beauty. It is this deep connection with the territory that gives meaning to the entire event, which chooses to enhance the cultural and landscape roots of Noci rather than chasing the large stages of city squares.

Music, art, and nature in a single journey

The program of BarsentoArte is multidisciplinary by nature. Over the years, it has featured concerts by ensembles and chamber groups, guitar music, repertoires ranging from early music to Latin American rhythms, choral singing workshops, storytelling sessions, and soundscapes, as well as nature walks and trekking that guide spectators to discover the paths around the church. Each edition is built around a central theme that links the various evenings together, transforming the festival into a true journey of meaning rather than a simple sequence of events.

BarsentoArte 2026: the tenth edition

In 2026, BarsentoArte reaches the milestone of its tenth edition, an important anniversary that the festival celebrates by reaffirming its bond with one of the most evocative natural and historical sites in the Noci area. The event is part of the Pietramadre – Puglia Capital of Culture 2026 project, the widespread calendar that accompanies the summer in Noci with numerous cultural appointments. The announced dates are August 18, 20, 22, and 23, 2026, held as always in the setting of the Church of Santa Maria di Barsento; the detailed program with artists and times will be communicated by the organization in the weeks leading up to the event.
