Early music resonates within the nave of the San Giorgio church
The Gaudete! International Early Music Festival is one of the longest-running and most acclaimed events dedicated to early and Baroque music in Piedmont. Organized by the Triacamusicale Association under the artistic direction of Mara Colombo, the festival takes place every year between spring and autumn, visiting numerous venues across Valsesia and Upper Piedmont, including Romanesque churches, oratories, and sites of historical significance. The Lozzolo stop, in the heart of lower Valsesia in the province of Vercelli, is one of the most anticipated dates on the calendar.
The Lozzolo concerts are held in the church of San Giorgio, a building erected in the first half of the 15th century that overlooks the town center. Its acoustics and intimate atmosphere make it the ideal space for early repertoire: historical instruments, from Baroque trumpets to the organ, engage in a dialogue with the stones and frescoes of a place steeped in memory. In recent years, the church has been the subject of significant study and restoration work, often highlighted in the publications that accompany the concerts.
The Lozzolo stop stems from the collaboration between Triacamusicale, the Municipality of Lozzolo, and Loxolensis, the committee for the protection, restoration, and promotion of Lozzolo's culture and cultural heritage. This synergy transforms every concert into a broader experience: music is complemented by historical insights, book presentations, and opportunities to discover the history of the village and its most representative sacred building.
For those who love early music and the small villages of Piedmont, the Lozzolo stop of Gaudete! is the perfect opportunity to combine high-quality listening with the discovery of the Vercelli province.
The Lozzolo stop of the 17th edition of the Gaudete! International Early Music Festival takes place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the church of San Giorgio in Lozzolo, in the province of Vercelli. The event is also included in the Festival of the Mountains program.
The concert, titled "From Baroque Courts to the Virtuosity of the Romantic Cornet", offers a musical journey through different eras and sounds, from the atmosphere of Baroque courts to the virtuosity associated with the Romantic cornet. The evening combines musical listening with the promotion of the village's historical heritage.
