Two days of scents, colors, and flavors in a medieval Chianti castle
When spring arrives, the small medieval castle of Barberino Val d'Elsa, the main town of the Barberino Tavarnelle municipality in the Province of Florence, dresses up for the occasion. Barberino in Fiore is a festival that has been enlivening the streets, squares, and terraces of the village for nearly twenty years, turning it into an authentic open-air garden overlooking the hills of Chianti and Valdelsa.
Promoted by local businesses with the support and patronage of the Municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, the event is an open-air market exhibition where roses, flowers, and local plants are the undisputed stars. Alongside the nurserymen, there is space for artisanal crafts, contemporary paintings and sculptures, and, of course, the flavors of Tuscany.
Strolling along Via Francesco da Barberino, in the courtyard of Palazzo Corsini, and in the small squares of the historic center, visitors will find a packed program of activities:
Barberino in Fiore is more than just a commercial showcase: it is a collective event involving local associations, the Punto Tavarnelle embroidery school, local choirs, wineries, and artists. Typically held around Mother's Day, the event is a perfect spring outing for families and curious visitors in one of the most evocative villages of the Florentine Chianti.
Admission is free, and to facilitate visitor arrival, a free shuttle service is generally provided from the main town of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa to Barberino Val d'Elsa.
The 2026 edition (the eighteenth) of Barberino in Fiore brought the village of Barberino Val d'Elsa to life on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Saturday and from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday. The market exhibition of flowers, plants, crafts, and contemporary art unfolded along Via Francesco da Barberino, in the courtyard of Palazzo Corsini, and in the squares of the historic center, accompanied by concerts, choirs, street bands, guided wine tastings, and food stalls featuring typical Tuscan flavors.
Barberino Val d'Elsa is located along the Via Cassia, between Florence and Siena. By car: from the Florence-Siena highway, take the Tavarnelle Val di Pesa or Poggibonsi Nord exit. By train to Poggibonsi or Florence, then by local bus. During the event, a free shuttle service is usually available from Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.
Free admission. Typical hours: Saturday from the afternoon until evening, Sunday from morning until evening. Guided wine tastings require a paid glass (approx. 5 euros).
Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone streets of the medieval village. Some workshops and guided tours require reservations.
