The Novara leg of the world tour dedicated to mountain and adventure cinema
Every year, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour brings the very best of the world's most important mountain film festival to Novara's Cinema VIP on Via Perazzi 3/C. Born in the Canadian town of Banff, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the festival selects the finest adventure, mountaineering, and outdoor sports films each year and takes them on tour across dozens of cities in Italy and Italian-speaking Switzerland. The Novara stop is organized in collaboration with the Novara Section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), a key reference point for local mountain enthusiasts.
The program features a selection of short and medium-length films that recount extraordinary feats and the stories of men and women who live the mountains to the fullest: extreme skiing in the powder of Japan, mountaineering and ice climbing between Mont Blanc and Iceland, kayak descents down unexplored rivers, mountain biking in the remote valleys of Nepal, and expeditions to the ends of the earth. The screenings, in their original language with Italian subtitles, offer the audience about two hours of intense, adrenaline-fueled entertainment, capable of thrilling both expert mountaineers and curious newcomers alike.
The Novara stop is more than just a film festival: the evening is often enriched by the presence of guests from the mountaineering world who engage with the audience, sharing personal experiences and their passion for the mountains. Thanks to CAI Novara, the event also serves as a gathering point for the community of enthusiasts in the Verbano and Eastern Piedmont region.
Part of the cultural calendar of Novara and its province in Piedmont, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour stop is a highly anticipated event that combines culture, sport, and entertainment. The Cinema VIP, a historic theater in the city center, welcomes a large audience every year, confirming how deeply felt the theme of the mountains is in a city that looks toward the nearby Alps and the Valsesia valley.
