The brass band imaginary festival between Trepuzzi and Casalabate
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Bande a Sud – Brass Band Imaginary Festival is one of the most iconic musical events in the province of Lecce. Founded in 2012, the festival takes place every August in the town of Trepuzzi and its seaside hamlet of Casalabate, in Puglia, turning town squares, courtyards, and the seafront into open-air stages. The beating heart of the event is Largo Margherita, in the historic center, where the main concerts are held.
The festival was born from a clear vision: to tell the story and reinvent the world of bande da giro—the brass ensembles that have accompanied patronal feasts in Southern Italy for centuries. In Trepuzzi, this popular heritage meets contemporary languages: singer-songwriter music, jazz, electronica, street arts, and sound experimentation. Each edition revolves around a theme that unifies the program, exploring the relationship between memory, community, and new sonic frontiers.
The festival structure alternates major evening concerts featuring nationally renowned artists with moments deeply rooted in tradition. During the central days, the Street Band Festival takes place, with dozens of itinerant bands invading the town streets, while on August 14th and 15th, traditional brass bands play all day long in conjunction with the patronal feast of the Assumption. The program also includes documentary screenings, workshops for children, and initiatives focused on accessibility and environmental sustainability.
Alongside the music, the festival offers Bande a Food, a culinary format that highlights typical Salento products and accompanies the evenings with street food and local cuisine. It is how Bande a Sud reinforces its nature as a community celebration, designed for an intergenerational audience.
Organized by the Municipality of Trepuzzi with the support of the Puglia Region, Bande a Sud has always kept admission free for all events. This choice makes it one of the most anticipated appointments of the Salento summer, capable of attracting visitors from all over the province of Lecce and beyond, combining the magic of village festivals with cutting-edge artistic research.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Bande a Sud have not yet been announced. Historically, the brass band imaginary festival takes place in the first half of August in Trepuzzi and Casalabate, culminating during the days of the patronal feast of the Assumption. To find out the line-up, artists, and appointments, it is recommended to follow the official website and social media channels of the festival and the Municipality.
Trepuzzi is located a few kilometers north of Lecce, along the main road to Brindisi. By car, it can be reached via the SS613 Brindisi–Lecce; by train, the Trepuzzi station is served by regional lines. The main events take place in Largo Margherita, in the center; some evenings are held in Casalabate, on the Adriatic coast.
All festival events are free of charge.
During the days of the Assumption feast (August 14-15), the center is very crowded: it is advisable to arrive early and park in the peripheral areas.
